Valerie Bertinelli is getting candid about the impact getting onscreen has on her.
The actress, who hasn't made a comeback to single-camera production in years, took to her Instagram Stories recently to reflect on the anxiety that comes with taking up a new project.
“I’m so grateful, if not a bit anxious. It’s an amazing script written by an amazing writer, and the cast is beyond my wildest dreams,” she told her 1.6 million Instagram followers.
Valerie Bertinelli also revealed that she is currently gearing up for a secretive role with Lifetime, which is making her nervous.
“It’s a beautiful role where I must break down all my barriers, shut out the outside noise, and be openly vulnerable. It’s the only way to let the real, authentic emotions flow. Now, I knew I was feeling a little fear. It’s been a while. But, I didn’t realize how really terrified I was until I looked at these selfies that I took to send to production.”
She added,
"I thought I was doing a pretty decent job of walking and talking through the fear and anxiety, but my eyes never ever lie. You can see the fear and doubt in them."
The Food Network alum, 65, told her fans on Instagram that she hasn't acted onscreen for “at least” four years. However, Valerie Bertinelli did host the Bingo Blitz on the Game Show Network recently and made a guest appearance as a lifestyle expert on The Drew Barrymore Show earlier this year.

The Hot In Cleveland alum opened up about the root cause of the nerves and jitters she's feeling:
“I know, in reality, this is just my process and I’ll be fine,” she penned in a post of two selfies from her garden. “I’ve been doing this for over 50 years, (it’s like riding a bike, right?) but I just love this script so much and I wanna do it justice.”
“So, feel the fear and do it anyway. Transfer the fear and anxiety into joy and excitement. They’re the same sort of feelings just on a different spectrum,” Valerie Bertinelli added.
In another post on Instagram, shared on Monday, June 16, the former Kid's Baking Championship host shared a selfie of herself and captioned it:
"Dancing sunlight streaming through a window in the morning? Happy. 😊 4:18a call-time tomorrow morning? Maybe not happy per se, but I’m so grateful to be working 🥰."
Valerie Bertinelli is most known for portraying Barbara Cooper in the CBS sitcom One Day at a Time. She held the role from 1976 to 1984. She is also known for having starred in the TV series Hot in Cleveland, which she wrapped up in 2015. She worked on the show for six seasons.
She is also an Emmy-winner, which she nabbed for the first time back in 2019. She won two Daytime Emmys for her Food Network show, Valerie’s Home Cooking.
In November last year, Valerie Bertinelli had fans concerned when she got “incredibly vulnerable” with them about a recent panic attack. The celebrity chef took to her Instagram at the time to reveal that she waited “for a day” to share a video of her hand shaking, indicating the onset of the attack.
“I’m posting because we’re all out here doing our best having a human experience and none of us want to feel like we’re alone in that,” she captioned it at the time.
“I don’t know if you can tell from this video (and my heart is still beating a little rapidly as I write this) I had a really bad anxiety attack today,” the actress shared.
She also said that she was “taking a chance” by getting candid about her struggles on a social platform.
“I want to share it because I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one out here who has experienced this. Gratefully these attacks have become much more infrequent, so this one took me a little bit by surprise today. This is the after effect,” Valerie Bertinelli explained.
“As I’m going through the actual attack (lol attack is such an appropriate word. My body and my mind feels like it’s actually under attack 😅) Anyway … I almost disassociate and am focused solely on calming down and finding any road to a more relaxed and peaceful body.”
Valerie Bertinelli informed her followers that her brain is “overthinking and catastrophizing” when she goes through such attacks, which sends her body “into overdrive.” She also said that she has "no control" when an attack hits.
