When will Horizon Zero Dawn's live-action adaptation start filming? Details revealed

As per IGN, the shooting of Horizon Zero Dawn's live-action adaptation is expected to start somewhere around 2026. This news has come up from a recent court document, which has been filed by Sony against Tencent. Sony has accused the latter of copying Horizon Zero Dawn to create Light of Motiram.

The document also unveils that the film's script is ready and the studios are looking for a director. They plan to start shooting next year and release the film in 2027.

In the declaration, Asad Qizilbash (who heads PlayStation Productions) said:

“We are in development for a film based on Horizon in partnership with Columbia Pictures. We already have a working script and are actively searching for a director, with the goal of shooting the picture in 2026 and releasing it in 2027. The live-action film follows the recent collaborations between Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions on the 2022 film Uncharted and the 2023 film Gran Turismo.”

He also spoke about the film's protagonist, Aloy, who is a young warrior trying to find out her past in a world that is run by machines. Asad said:

"[She is a] key icon in the anticipated film [and is crucial] to the flywheel of franchise building.”

Horizon Zero Dawn film adaptation was first announced at the CES press conference earlier this year, where Asad had said,

"Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions are at the early stages of developing a film adaptation of the award-winning Horizon Zero Dawn. Just imagine, Aloy's beloved origin story set in a vibrant, far future world filled with the giant machines, brought to you for the first time on the big screen."

The makers are yet to reveal the film's cast members.
