The Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans starrer finally has a streaming date on HBO Max, after it went on to earn more than $100 million at the box office.

Officially announced today, Materialists will be available for streaming on the platform from November, 7, where you can catch the romantic drama that comes from Oscar-nominated director Celine Song. The new and increased plans for HBO Max start at $10.99 per month for the basic plan, while the Standard plan costs $18.49 and the Premium plan is priced at $22.99.

Materialists dives into the glittering yet shallow world of New York City dating with a sharp, romantic comedy-drama lens. The film stars Johnson as Lucy Mason, a top-tier matchmaker who works for Adore, Evans as John Pitts, Lucy's struggling ex-boyfriend who is working to become an actor, and Pascal as Harry Castillo, a wealthy and charming man Lucy meets at one of her client's weddings. The love triangle gets deeper as Lucy finds herself torn between her love and familiarity for John and the comfortable lifestyle that Harry has to offer, all the while juggling her clients' relationships.

Speaking to The Credits, Song opened up about the film's themes, and how it explores the world of dating and materialistic affection. Speaking to the outlet, the director says,

“We have a material record of things, because the film is ‘Materialists.’ But the thing that we don’t have a record of is the feeling that passed between people. You actually cannot fall in love with the height, weight, salary. As Lucy says, love has to be on the table.”

In the film, Lucy sees romantic relationship partners as checking the boxes, noting down their physical features, financial conditions and other materialistic things, until she realizes that these checks aren't enough if there isn't love on the table, when a well-made match of one of her clients go horribly wrong.

The project first surfaced in February of 2024, with Killer Films’ Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler, alongside David Hinojosa of 2AM, producing. At launch, Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal were confirmed to lead. Daniel Pemberton composed the film’s original score, giving it a raw, romantic feel as the film navigates us through the love stories.

Materialists will be available to stream on HBO Max starting November, 9.
