Tron: Ares will release theatrically on October 10, 2025. People are generally curious to find out when it will be released digitally on Disney+. If we look at other Disney live-action films, they have mostly dropped on the streaming platform around 95 days after they hit the silver screen. So this means that Tron: Ares will likely release on Disney+ in the month of January, 2026.

Another factor that could influence the film’s release timing is how it’s received by critics and audiences. Unlike major franchises like Marvel or Indiana Jones, Tron isn’t exactly a household name. Therefore, the release strategy may shift based on its box office performance. If the film underperforms, Disney might opt for an earlier streaming release. However, if it performs well, the traditional 90-day theatrical window could be extended.

Tron: Ares is produced by Jared Leto, Justin Springer, Sean Bailey, Emma Ludbrook, Jeffrey Silver, Steven Lisberger, and Emma Ludbrook. Its cast members include,

  • Jared Leto as Ares
  • Greta Lee as Eve Kim
  • Gillian Anderson as Elisabeth Dillinger
  • Evan Peters as Julian Dillinger
  • Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn
  • Jodie Turner-Smith as Athena
  • Cameron Monaghan as Caius
  • Hasan Minhaj as Ajay Singh
  • Arturo Castro as Seth Flores
  • Sarah Desjardins

In a Screen Rant interview, the film's director revealed that recreating the original film's special effects was the toughest thing for him.

"It's like the first one is kind of like a holy grail for VFX artists, and it was the first film that really utilized computer graphics and things like that. So when we made the original grid in our film, it was very important for me that we didn't polish it, that it was supposed to look as much as possible like the first film. And that's pretty rough. I'm just saying, if you've seen the first film lately, it is very rough."

Tron: Ares is a follow-up to the 2010 film Tron: Legacy, which was directed by Joseph Kosinski. The franchise began with Steven Lisberger's film Tron, which was released in 1982.
