Swamp People star Willie Edwards, who is running his own business of catching alligators in Louisiana following his departure from the popular show, is now mourning the loss of his father. According to People Magazine, his father, Junior Edwards, recently passed away, the news of which was announced through a Facebook post by his grandson, Lil Willie Edwards. He wrote:
"Rest easy pawpaw. I know [you're] probably running your hoop nets or doing something crazy inside those pearly gates. You will be extremely missed pawpaw. We love you more than anything!!! Until we meet again."
Junior Edwards rose to fame after he and his family were featured in the long-running History Channel reality TV show, titled "Swamp People." His family, who are based in Bayou Sorrel, Louisiana, quickly became popular on the show for their expertise in hunting alligators in the Atchafalaya Basin. Edwards retired in 2015, after which his son Willie took over. However, according to People Magazine, Junior Edwards had briefly returned in 2021 for the show's twelfth season.
More about Willie Edwards, as his father, Junior Edwards, passes away
Willie Edwards, whose full name is William Edward III, was born in 1982 and was raised in Louisiana by his parents, Junior Edwards and Theresa Edwards. According to Top Rewind, he attended Plaquemine High School and later joined his family's fishing business.
According to Distractify, he and his younger brother Randy Edwards, along with their father, appeared on the show for the first time in 2010. He soon rose to become their top expert when it came to alligator hunting, after having started as a novice.
Randy Edwards passed away in September 2018 in a road accident, after which Willie Edwards was one of the only two people from the Edwards family who continued to appear on the show. His representative released a statement on behalf of his family announcing his brother's demise. It read:
"It is in deep sadness that I make this post. Junior and Theresa's son, Willie's brother, Randy, passed away in a vehicle accident early this morning."
Willie Edwards is married to Sherrie Edwards. The couple tied the knot on August 20, 2000, and welcomed their first child, Michaela Deshai Edwards, in October of the same year. The couple later welcomed two more children, one of whom is Lil Willie Edwards, who has now taken his father's place on the show following his departure.
According to reports, earlier this year, Edwards temporarily left the show after fifteen years, but the exact cause of his departure was not revealed. Many fans speculated that he had given up alligator hunting, but he later posted a picture of himself hunting them, which proved that, despite not being associated with the fan favorite show, he was continuing with his beloved passion.
According to People Magazine, at the moment, no cause of Junior Edwards' death has been revealed. However, it is reported that he was allegedly suffering from an undisclosed health issue before his passing.
