Lance Bass may be feeling nostalgic, but he's not romanticizing everything about the '90s. The NSYNC alum says time has softened his view of the decade's once-questionable trends, even as he draws firm lines around what should stay buried.
In his exclusive interview with People, the singer reminisced about the era when the band was at its height, and revealed which fad he's willing to re-embrace.
"It's so funny, because living in the '90s, I always thought the fashion was horrible. I just remember [thinking], 'Really? This is what we're doing?' Even then, I was like, 'This does not feel good.' Everything was so oversized and all that, but now it's so funny that that style is back, and I actually appreciate it more now."

Lance Bass went on:
"I'm like, 'Okay, maybe that was kinda cool.' Yeah, I've learned to appreciate the '90s fashion, especially now, so I'm glad that's back. I think the '90s were amazing. It was such a melting pot of a decade."
Of course, the I Want You Back crooner also revealed the '90s trend that he thinks should stay in the past — and it's the Tamagotchi.
"I appreciated a lot of things, but there's some things that probably don't need to come back. I was never one of those Tamagotchi people. I never Tama-got-it. I just thought it was the dumbest thing."

Tamagotchi was a popular digital pet care toy from Bandai, which recently saw a resurgence, now with modern features like Wi-Fi connectivity, color screens, and metaverse features (Tamaverse). But for Lance Bass, the toy should just stay buried in the '90s.
"I know they tried bringing that back, and it failed. Yeah, that can stay back in that decade. It was so dumb. I'm like, 'Okay, this thing just makes noise. It's always hungry. Goodbye.'"
Lance Bass reveals NSYNC song he hopes to get a revival
Meanwhile, Lance Bass also dished on the revival of NSYNC's 2000 hit, Bye Bye Bye, after it climbed to the Top 10 of Billboard’s Global Excl. U.S. chart in August 2024.
The song's rebirth was all thanks to its usage in Deadpool & Wolverine, chiefly Ryan Reynolds dancing to the track at the onset of the film.
However, other than Bye Bye Bye, Lance Bass revealed that he hopes to see another track off NSYNC's No Strings Attached album get its resurrection.

"The one I think that gets overlooked is a song called It Makes Me Ill. That was my favorite from No Strings Attached. I think it was such a great, fun song."
The singer continued:
"I definitely fought for that to be a single, but we had other songs. We had some bangers from that album, so it was hard to pick a single."
