Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, is gearing up for what's being dubbed the "wedding of the century" in Italy, along with his partner Lauren Sánchez. The whole Aman Venice hotel, one of Venice's most prestigious and historic establishments, has been hired out by the pair, causing previous bookings planned by guests to change or cancel.

Housed in the 450-year-old Palazzo Papadopoli, the five-star luxury hotel Aman Venice is tucked away along the Grand Canal, only a short stroll from Venice's busy main square. The facility, which only has 24 apartments yet is renowned for its luxury and seclusion, is filled with both contemporary conveniences and vintage charm. Giambattista Tiepolo's Baroque murals, unique Rococo and Neo-Renaissance elements, and magnificent marble fireplaces grace the hotel's interiors.
This is the same place where George and Amal Clooney were married in 2014; it has long been a favorite retreat for the world's elite.
According to reports, Jeff Bezos and Sánchez reserved the whole Aman Venice for three nights beginning on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. The decision compelled guests who had made reservations months in advance to either cancel or switch to other upscale lodgings, according to Page Six.
According to a source who said the lobby was "chaotic," and the security guards who were inquiring about people's accommodations:
“Guests who had previously booked [at] the hotel for Wednesday night a long time in advance were booted once Bezos rented the entire space a few months ago.”
The source also revealed:
“Those guests are being moved to other hotels, including the St. Regis. Aman is paying for their rooms in addition to comping a night of their stay and offering upgrades.”
Aman paid for the relocation of the impacted guests to five-star hotels, such as the St. Regis Venice, and provided complimentary rooms, upgrades, and one night's lodging. Many guests were grateful for the gesture, but others were annoyed that they had to pack, take transportation, which Aman had also arranged, and then unpack somewhere else. The source added:
"Some are griping that they have to pack up, take transport [Aman provided] and unpack again”
The hotel and other wedding-related locations have increased security in the run-up to Jeff Bezos and Lauren's arrival. Ten to twelve security guards swept the Aman property thoroughly on Tuesday, inspecting the private patio, passageways, and cupboards.
Seven Italian police officers were also seen at the St. Regis Venice, which is housing several VIP wedding guests. According to a hotel insider, this was an uncommon move where guests checking in were forced to wait outside, and only those with verified bookings were allowed access.
The witness told Page Six:
“They were holding people at the door and one more cop was stationed outside. It seemed like maybe someone important was checking in. The manager was making sure that even those who had luggage had reservations. One member of the family was let inside to check in while the others waited.”
People who had reservations at Gio's, the hotel's restaurant, also had to wait.
Jeff Bezos' wedding of the century- but not without controversy

Some locals have reacted negatively to the couple's extravagant plans, even if they have awed fans and industry experts. Banners that read, "No Space for Bezos," were held by protesters in Venice as they voiced their displeasure about ultra-wealthy tourists upsetting the city's delicate ecology and displacing normal activities. Posters around the city were also stuck, which read:
“Veniceland: A playground fit for an oligarch.”
It will have a "multi-million dollar" effect on the city's economy, according to Luigi Brugnaro, the mayor of Venice, and others.
Lanza & Baucina Limited, who are the event planners, released a statement where they explained the instructions they received from Jeff Bezos and Lauren:
“From the outset, instructions from our client and our own guiding principles were abundantly clear: the minimising of any disruption to the city, the respect for its residents and institutions and the overwhelming employment of locals in the crafting of the events.”
It was also revealed that the soon-to-be-wed couple, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez, have made donations worth 1 million euros to a consortium that funds scientific studies and conservation initiatives on the Venetian lagoon.
