Whitney Purvis, a former cast member of MTV’s 16 and Pregnant, raised concerns in the wake of her son’s death, questioning whether a lack of medical insurance may have contributed to the tragedy. The 33-year-old alleged that Weston Gosa Sr., the child’s father, failed to fulfill a court-mandated obligation to provide coverage.
Her son, Weston Jr., died in his sleep on June 2 at the age of 16. While no official cause of death has been confirmed, Purvis noted that her son had struggled with diabetes and other medical conditions since childhood.
In a Facebook post, Whitney Purvis wrote:
“Tell me if this makes sense. My son had diabetes, Addison's disease, and alpha one anti-trypsin deficiency, and he had no medical insurance, but he had a life insurance policy taken out on him. His dad bought five cars in the last six months but couldn't pay for medical insurance. He brags about how much money he has and has the nerve to make a GoFundMe to help bury him when he was just going to cremate him anyway because it was the cheapest, plus he had the life insurance policy."
She added that Gosa had prioritized other expenses:
“His death could've been prevented. He should have had a Dexcom/glucose monitor that alerted when his sugar was going up or down to a dangerous level. In our custody order, he was supposed to have medical insurance on our kids; that was part of our agreement. That just doesn't sit right with me, and I brought this up to him a few days before the funeral, and he got mad, thinking I was accusing him of neglect, but I just wanted to understand.”
Whitney Purvis alleges she was denied entry to her late son’s funeral
Whitney Purvis also addressed claims that she missed her son’s funeral due to arriving late, clarifying in her Facebook post that she had been turned away at the door:
“As for the funeral, they wanted to say I was on the list, then why couldn't I come in? I said there must be some kind of mistake, and they said no. He knew I was out there and told them to have me leave the property. Does that sound like I was just late, or does it sound like he didn't want me there at all? If he was a decent person, he could've made sure I at least got to say my goodbyes to him,” she wrote.
In the same post, Whitney Purvis claimed she had pleaded with Gosa to intervene before the cremation, but he refused:
“I begged him to do something. He was cremated yesterday, and the funeral was Saturday. He said it's not his problem. He knew what he was doing,” she continued. “I don't care how much I don't like someone; there are certain lines I would never cross. I'm not the type of person who wants to see someone suffering, and I'll never understand that type of evil. He needed my signature to cremate Weston, he has no problem taking child support from me, but yet he says I'm not his mother.”
Weston Gosa Sr. denied the allegations made by Whitney Purvis regarding their son’s care and funeral arrangements. In a statement to Us Weekly, he pushed back against the narrative circulating online:
“She’s mad and she’s resorted to Facebook to make all these false accusations against me and my family,” Gosa said.
He added:
“It’s ridiculous we have to deal with this while we try to mourn the loss of our son.”
As per Whitney Purvis's perspective on the Facebook post, she ended her public remarks by expressing regret for the tone of her message, while also explaining what she had hoped to receive after her son’s death:
“I apologize for ranting and this is all I will speak on it but I'm tired of screaming in silence. All I wanted was to have my alone time w him to say goodbye, a lock of his hair and some his ashes. He has ignored my messages since the funeral,” she wrote.
