Who was Akbar V married to? Rapper accuses ex-husband of physical abuse and opens up about postpartum depression

Rapper Akbar V has opened up about her troubled marriage and the difficulties that followed. She has accused her ex-husband, Shakeem Taylor, of domestic abuse and said that she suffered from postpartum depression during the relationship.

Akbar V posted worrisome information on social media on September 15, 2025, claiming that she had been physically abused by her ex-husband several times. The artist shared a picture of her face with visible swelling, captioned:

“I been getting my face punched in by my husband but turn around and ask for my money … and I was dumb I still tried to work it out and figure out the problem he gets mad when I find out he’s cheating do u see my face.”

She also stated that she was admitted to Jefferson Hospital following the initial violent event. She claims that the most recent attack happened on August 22, her birthday, when a fight at a club got out of hand:

"First time he beat me and put me in Jefferson hospital cause he was telling his ex girlfriend daughter she can call and ask him for whatever but knows how much the ex girlfriend has done in our marriage... i still stayed now he just did this on my birthday 08/22."

According to Akbar, her ex-husband accused her of being the cause of the incident. She went on to label him a narcissist and claimed that he attempted to publicly embarrass her:

"... And he such a narcissist told me it was my fault cause the guy tried to help me when he slap me .. all i said was this lame nggga trying to make me go home but i was playing nothing serious he put hands on me for nothing everyone knows i play and talk smack my husband knows it too he just wanted to embarrass me at the club for my birthday so he walks up to this man and whatever happen happen."

She added:

"Ima get him in jail or unalived if he stay with me trying to play victim im tired im not staying with nobody who cheats and abuses me .... and i was going to make a police report cause he keep putting his hands on me when he get caught doing something he shouldn't be doing everybody can laugh i don't care im dealing with a lot just pray for me... please im tired ... don't care nomore im tired."

In addition to her claims of abuse, Akbar V also stated that she has been battling with postpartum depression, which had made her marital problems worse:

"Do you see what i been dealing with on top of that going through postpartum depression?"

Akbar V's marriage to Shakeem "Bean" Taylor

Akbar V, whose real name is Valerie Raven, was previously married to Shakeem Taylor, who was known as Bean. Although the couple's wedding was mostly kept under wraps, they were married in June 2023.

Not soon after, by September 2024, Akbar V confirmed that she had filed for divorce and shared a picture of her County Superior Court court documents. She wrote at the time:

“Today i file for divorce and the reason im addressing this is because it was so many people who saw me in courtroom and i didn’t want anyone to tell my story before i got to tell it… i think this was the best decision i could make me an bean kool with it he told me this was kool to post .. i want him to be free and find someone who fits him …. i been through a lot these last couple months and today i chose me over anybody else.”

In spite of her statement, the couple's past conflicts had been revealed online. According to reports, in late 2023, after Bean publicly corrected false information on his daughter's health:

“Dora is not fighting for her life. She can walk on her own, talk on her own, She’s able to hear and see. To Those that her her in your prayers, please continue to do so. Thanks! It’s appreciated.”

Akbar accused him of being a "clout chaser." She replied on social media, writing:

“I married a clout chaser… now that’s my karma… I want a divorce.”

Akbar V had urged her followers to pray as she concluded her most recent post.

Akbar V now concentrates on her children and career, as she had stated earlier that she chose to divorce Bean so that she could put her family and career first.
