According to Forbes, Alex Consani, an American model, influencer, and comedian, began her modeling career back in 2015, becoming the world’s youngest transgender model at just 12 years old. Four years later, in 2019, she signed with IMG Models and quickly found a global audience, not only through high-fashion runways but also through her comedic presence on TikTok, where she amassed more than three million followers.

Her rise through the fashion ranks was swift. Alex Consani has walked in runways for luxury houses, including Tom Ford, Alexander McQueen, and Versace, and cemented her place in history as one of the first transgender models to appear in the Victoria’s Secret 2024 Fashion Show. As Tatler reported, Consani reached another professional milestone when she was named Model of the Year at the 2024 Fashion Awards in London.

The win was presented by fellow model Ashley Graham and actor Nava Mau, as Alex Consani arrived in a corseted gown with Union Jack-patterned draping designed by Dilara Findikoglu.

“I’m the first trans woman to win this award!” Consani shared.
“But I can’t accept this award without thanking those who came before me, specifically the Black trans women who really fought for the space I’m in today–Dominique Jackson, Connie Fleming, Aaron Rose Phillips and countless more who fought for the space that allowed me to flourish today,” Consani added.

In a candid interview with Harper's Bazaar, published on March 20, 2025, Alex Consani reflected on the challenges she had faced as a trans woman and the resilience it took to rise above them.

“I like to be in the streets,” Consani said.
“I like to do as much as I can. I speak publicly about what I believe in, and that makes me hopeful. I grew up online. I’ve been on the internet since I was eight or nine, so I’ve always gotten hate, and I’ve always known that it’s coming from a place of self-hatred, because no one takes time out of their day to go online and talk negatively about someone unless they have self-hatred within their own head. So I push through it by knowing that I am doing what I love and I’m being vocal about it. If you want to hate on me? Do it. Do it, because you know what that means? More clicks, more views, more money for me, babe,” Consani added.

Her words captured both her humor and her defiance. Still, Alex Consani admitted that the constant noise of the internet could sometimes feel overwhelming.

“Sometimes it can get you wrapped up in the negativity, when that’s never been what our community is about, It’s always been positive. …Even in the face of such negative policies, we’re able to recognize that us as a community can’t be affected. We’re never going to go away. We’re never going to go away,” shared Alex.

Anok Yai had heard the rumors. After losing Model of the Year to Alex Consani at the 2024 Fashion Awards, online chatter suggested the two models had fallen out. However, as Yai explained in Allure’s joint interview, published on September 23, the truth couldn’t have been further from the speculation. “The whole thing has actually brought us closer,” Yai said, opposing even the thought of a feud between the two models. She spoke openly about how fashion, and the narratives surrounding it, often miss the real stories behind the women who make it.

“The more I work in fashion, the more I value humanity and individual people, It’s an interesting juxtaposition to what people online talk about. They're always fantasizing about the lives of these low-key boring b**ches that never experienced anything. I'm like, 'Babe, why aren't we talking about the girls who worked hard for it, have an actual story, have a history, have a message?'”

According to Anok Yai, she and Consani “have a really close relationship” and were actually in celebration mode on the night of the awards.

“That night, we were actually partying, we were celebrating [Alex] with her trophy, and then when we stepped out, we got all the [social] notifications. It was like, 'Oh s---,'” Yai recalled

Anok Yai said she felt nothing but admiration for Alex Consani's groundbreaking win.

“And the stuff that Alex has done, no one's done it in the game before, she's the first trans model to really be acknowledged, and she deserves all of it. What I didn't like was people attacking Alex for being trans.”

Alex Consani, meanwhile, expressed frustration at the backlash Yai faced in the aftermath.

“There aren't a lot of dark-skinned models that have reached the status you're at, and the mistreatment that I see in fashion, especially towards dark-skinned girls, it's really upsetting,” she told Yai.

Both Yai and Alex Consanii have continued to support one another publicly, making it clear that any talk of rivalry was just that, talk. As the two models move forward in their respective careers, their friendship stands as a reminder that solidarity often speaks louder than speculation.
