Music executive and award-winning songwriter Amanda Ghost, originally from England, currently finds herself at the center of a growing legal controversy, with actor and director Rebel Wilson surrounding the film The Deb.

What started as a promising venture for everyone involved, including the actress Charlotte MacInnes, has since devolved into a tangle of lawsuits and legal battles, involving public accusations, defamation claims, and debates about professional boundaries.

Amanda Ghost, whose real name is Amanda Louisa Gosein, rose to prominence in the music industry with her 2000 debut album Ghost Stories, which had a positive reception by the general public. She later turned her attention to songwriting and production, co-writing hits including “You’re Beautiful” (2004) by James Blunt and “Beautiful Liar” (2006) by Beyoncé and Shakira.

According to a biography on The Marque, Ghost has received three Ivor Novello Awards and multiple Grammy nominations. She later went on to serve as the president of Epic Records before co-founding her own venture, UNIGRAM. In collaboration with her spouse, producer Gregor Cameron, she has crafted several movies, including I, Tonya (2017) and Hacksaw Ridge (2016).

Last year, Amanda Ghost was a lead producer on The Deb, Rebel Wilson’s directorial debut. A feel-good musical, the film follows two girls from a small Australian town as they prepare for a traditional debutante ball.

The film had its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2024 and was seemingly close to a settlement on distribution. But the production soon became engulfed in controversy amid a series of posts, along with legal filings, as fired off by Wilson.

More about the controversy between Rebel Wilson and Amanda Ghost

Rebel Wilson, according to court filings and public posts, accused Amanda Ghost of embezzlement, bullying, and, most explosively, of inappropriate relationships with the film’s lead, Charlotte MacInnes.

According to The Guardian, in her court filings, Wilson accused MacInnes of being subjected to sexual harassment and abuse from Ghost. Since then, both Ghost and MacInnes have strongly denied the allegations.

MacInnes submitted her own declaration in the Los Angeles Superior Court stating that Rebel Wilson’s assertions were completely false and absurd. She claimed that she had never informed Wilson about Amanda Ghost's misconduct and stated that she felt bullied and pressured by the director to state otherwise. MacInnes revealed in her court statement (as reported by The Guardian):

"I was deeply disturbed by this behaviour, and felt very bullied and harassed by Wilson, who was the director of the film and in a position of authority over me"

Charlotte MacInnes said that the narrative about her being held hostage and moved from city to city by the producers was completely fabricated.

Wilson, who has over 11 million Instagram followers, revived interest in the affair in May 2025 when she publicly bashed MacInnes for wearing what she described as a “culturally inappropriate Indian outfit” to a Cannes yacht party thrown by billionaire film financier Len Blavatnik.

According to Variety, MacInnes, who was singing at the event, had worn a 1970s American vintage look, a detail explained by the boutique. Wilson’s recent remarks have prompted criticism online.
