By mid-2025, TikTok found a new luxury icon in Becca Bloom. Rebecca Ma, known on the app as @BeccaxBloom, has managed to get six million followers across her social platforms since January, as per Vogue.

Becca Bloom grew up in Atherton, California, one of the country’s wealthiest towns. Her parents, Simon Yiming Ma and Heidi Chou, have built their fortunes through Camelot Information Systems, a Chinese tech and cloud computing company that went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2010 before being taken private in 2014.

As per The Knot, what sets Becca Bloom apart from usual influencers is the way she mixes extravagance with ease. Her fans described her as approachable because of her casual, chatty delivery, even when she is arranging her cat’s breakfast of caviar, sashimi and bone broth on a Versace charger.

Few weddings stirred as much attention this year as Becca Bloom’s Lake Como celebration. The social media influencer, marked her marriage to David Pownall with a multiday event at Villa Balbiano, documented by Vogue. Her nuptials joined a season already filled with high-profile unions, including those of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez in Venice, and Alex Soros and Huma Abedin in the Hamptons.

As The New York Times reported, Becca Bloom turned the wedding into a months-long event online. Fans speculated about live streams, pleaded for invitations, and scoured social media for updates. When the big day passed with no posts, anticipation grew. Becca Bloom eventually delivered a polished reveal: a Vogue feature and a TikTok post that sent her followers into celebration.

The story behind the wedding began in Palo Alto. According to Vogue, Bloom and Pownall met on December 28, 2019, at a Philz Coffee.

“I was home from college, and it was only David’s tenth day in the Bay Area after moving to the US from Vancouver, David asked if he could buy me a coffee, to which I responded, ‘I don’t drink coffee, only tea.’ Not exactly the flirtiest response, but somehow he rolled with it,” shared Bloom.

That simple exchange turned into a day-long first date.

“We wandered through my old Palo Alto neighborhood, me showing him the parks and streets I grew up with, him seeing it all for the first time,” added Bloom.

Dinner at a sushi spot capped the night. By July 2023, nearly four years later, Pownall proposed in Positano on the first day of their vacation. Bloom recalled that he framed the outing as a photoshoot.

“He said it was for my ‘Instagram photoshoot,’ and I didn’t think twice about it,” she admitted.

Bloom arrived for the boat outing in dramatic fashion, in a hot-pink feathered cover-up and an orange Burberry bikini, while Pownall kept it classic in white linen.

“When he asked, ‘Are you sure you want to wear that?’ I was slightly offended, but carried on,” she joked.

The real surprise followed. Pownall suggested they take a photo together.

“I agreed, and that’s when he dropped to one knee and proposed, from there, everything was a blur of joy,” Bloom shared.

The evening ended with a candlelit dinner overlooking the Amalfi Coast, music filling the air. From there, the celebration carried on with loved ones in Provence.

Becca Bloom and David Pownall’s two weddings

Almost two years after their engagement, Becca Bloom and David Pownall were married on August 28 at Villa Balbiano, a lakeside estate on Lake Como.

“We had a few weekends to choose from, but a fortune teller told us this was the luckiest date, it felt like the universe was pointing us toward that day,” Becca shared.

The setting was no accident, she had always pictured herself saying vows in Italy, calling the villa the couple’s “second home.” Their vision for the day was rooted in intimacy.

“We’re both introverts - nerdy in the sense that we love numbers, puzzles, baking, and crafts together - and the thought of reading our vows in front of hundreds of people felt daunting,” Becca explained.

At the same time, her parents had dreamed of something larger. The compromise, she explained, was two celebrations: a traditional Asian wedding her parents were planning, and a 60-guest Lake Como ceremony that matched their quieter style. Planning stretched over nearly two years, but Bloom said it never felt like a burden.

“We had a nearly two-year wedding planning process, but we approached it with as much ease and joy as possible, I’ve been a very ‘type B’ bride from the start - I didn’t give my bridesmaids any responsibilities and just wanted everyone to treat it like a beautiful Italian vacation,” she shared

Becca Bloom described herself as the designer and Pownall as the scheduler. Together, and with guidance from Anastasia and Kristina of Iles Events, they kept the process light.

“Neither of us wanted to stress over strict timelines, we enjoyed late-night design iterations and had fun with the little details - like picking plates and designing our menus with Cartalia. For us, this was the only wedding we would ever plan, so rather than treating it like a high-pressure project, we wanted to savor every moment,” explained Becca.
