Renowned American actor and comedian Ben Stiller opened up about parenting his two children, Ella and Quinlin, in a recent People Magazine exclusive interview.
Stiller has two children: his daughter, Ella, born in 2002, and his son Quinlin, born in 2005. The actor shares his children with his wife of over 2 decades, Christine Taylor. Both Ella and Quinlin have acted alongside Stiller in various projects.
In the recent interview, the actor shared insights about fatherhood and the mistakes he made while parenting his children. The conversation took place at the premiere of Stiller's new documentary titled Stiller & Maera: Nothing is Lost at the New York Film Festival.
During the conversation, Ben Stiller shared that his children helped him identify some of the things he "got wrong" as a parent.
“They [Ella and Quinn] were very clear with me about what I got wrong and I really appreciated that, because it's one of those things where you think you know, ‘Oh, I know what I'm putting out there to them.’ But from their perspective, it was totally different.” Ben Stiller told the publication.
“And by the way, that's exactly how it was with my parents. But as the parent, I really couldn't see that. So to be able to interview them and talk to them about it and hear their honest feelings - and the fact that they were free enough and secure enough to just say what they thought - is something I really appreciated.” Ben explained further.
In addition to interviews with his own children, Ella and Quinlin, the documentary delves into his connection with his late parents, the well-known comedy duo Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara.
Ben Stiller mentions in the documentary that he frequently prioritized his job over his children and that, in the end, he wasn't as present a parent as he believed he was.
About Ben Stiller's children
Ella Olivia Stille was born in Los Angeles on April 9, 2002, to actors Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor. After graduating from New York City's Calhoun School, where her father also attended, she went on to study at Juilliard.
In addition to her voice acting in 2010's Megamind, Ella has appeared in two short films, an episode of the 2018 TV miniseries Escape at Dannemora (directed by her father), 2020's Hubie Halloween, and an uncredited cameo in Ben Stiller's 2014 film Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb.
She has performed in productions in New York City and starred as Rizzo in the Grease production at her high school.
Quinlin was born on July 10, 2025. He has also collaborated with his father. Both Stiller children had small vocal parts in their father's cartoon film Madagascar. Quinlin, who was just under 3 at the time, was a little nervous about sitting in front of the microphone, but he soon relaxed.
Quinlin and his sister have been Stiller's "focus group" for his Apple TV+ series, Severance, as he has continued to delve into the backstage aspects of his job. Both children are often spotted with Ben Stiller at various red carpet events and premieres.
