Legendary NHL player Bernie Parent is reported to have passed away last week on Sunday. Parent, who was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984, was married to business manager Gini Gramaglia Parent, whom he wed in 2016.

Bernie Parent began his professional career in 1965 with the Boston Bruins, where he played for two years. In 1967, he was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers. He later also played briefly for the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 1972, he signed to the Philadelphia Blazers but later returned to the Philadelphia Flyers, where he enjoyed the best run of his career. In 1979, he suffered a devastating eye injury during a game against the New York Rangers, which forced him to retire at just thirty four years old.

His death on 21 September is being mourned by former colleagues and fans across the world. His former team, Toronto Maple Leafs, released a statement saying:

"A Maple Leaf from 1970–72, Parent shared the crease with Jacques Plante in one of the game’s iconic tandems before going on to capture back-to-back Vezina and Conn Smythe Trophies, two Stanley Cups with Philadelphia, and induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and all who admired him."

Bernie Parent, whole full name was Bernard Marcel Parent, was born on April 3, 1945 in Rosemont, Quebec. Not much is known about his early family life, but it is known that he was the youngest of seven children. He was first married to Carol Parent, during the height of his career during the 1970s.

Details about their marriage remain scarce, but the couple welcomed three children, before later divorcing. All of his children lead private lives away from the spotlight.

In 2016, he married Gini Gramaglia Parent. It is not known how the couple met, but they frequently posted about each other on their social media accounts.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Gini Gramaglia Parent is a salon owner having opened her own business, Gini's G Hair Design Studio, in 1993. Since her marriage to Bernie Parent, she has also acted as his business manager.

According to the Philadelphia Flyers official website, his family has requested that in lieu of flowes donations be made to the Ed Snider Hockey & Education, an organization for which he served as an ambassador.

Parent, who was eighty years at the time of his death, passed away peacefully in sleep. He is survived by his wife of nine years and his three children from his first marriage.
