According to NBC, Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia founded the blues rock band Blood Brothers in 2002, which primarily specializes in covering songs by the classic 1960s rock band The Kinks. As per NBC, it was in an impromptu and spontaneous moment that the veteran actor and comedian Bill Murray became the frontman of the band.

When Bill's brother, John Murray, an actor and writer, booked the Blood Brothers to perform at the Murray Brothers' Caddyshack Golf Tournament, which is an annual event, the Lost in Translation star went up to the stage and joined the band when they started playing a track by one of his favorite rock bands, The Rascals. Ever since then, Bill became the frontman of the band. In an October 2025 Boston Herald interview, Bill Murray, about the band, said:

"This band is made up of all-stars. Each of them brings a different energy, which makes me really have to dig in. I enjoy the challenge each night and am thankful they keep it coming."

Guitarist Jimmy Vivino, regarding the frontman Murray, said:

"If you can't engage with the crowd, what's the point? Watching Bill get off on stage is a perfect example of that. His charisma and his ability to connect is an amazing thing to behold."
