Bobby Lee, the Korean American comedian best known for MadTV and his offbeat podcast antics, was born to Jeanie and Robert Lee in San Diego, California. His parents, who owned clothing stores, raised Bobby and his younger brother Steve Lee — now also a comedian and musician — in a traditional household that didn’t exactly encourage a career in stand-up.
And yet, Bobby would go on to become one of the most fearless voices in comedy — a trait he recently put on full display when he addressed his sudden exit from And Just Like That....
Lee said in a candid interview with Entertainment Weekly at San Diego Comic-Con 2025,
“Some of the woke elements of the show, they got rid of, and I think I was a part of that. I think Sara [Ramirez] didn’t come back and some other people. They tried to put minorities in, and — I don’t know. I never saw the show.”
Bobby Lee, who played Carrie Bradshaw’s podcast co-host Jackie Nee in Seasons 1 and 2 of the Sex and the City spinoff, believes his removal wasn’t entirely creative.
“Number one, I don’t even know why they asked. And I was super scared to do it. Because it wasn’t my brand, really. You know what I mean? But I did it. I walked through the fear.”
Bobby Lee- Family roots, comic rise, and career twists
Raised in San Diego by his Korean immigrant parents, Jeanie and Robert Lee, Bobby Lee took an unconventional path. Though initially pushed toward the family business, he chased comedy instead — getting his start at The Comedy Store before opening for acts like Pauly Shore and Carlos Mencia. He eventually landed on MadTV, where he developed his signature blend of surreal sketches and unapologetic humor.
His younger brother, Steve Lee, has followed his own creative journey — often joining Bobby in podcast episodes and live shows. Despite their parents’ initial skepticism about comedy, Bobby Lee has turned his career into a long-standing success, with roles in The Dictator, Pineapple Express, and most recently, And Just Like That..., where the plot may have ended — but the controversy is just warming up.
Praise for Parker, and the moment that changed his life

Though Bobby Lee’s departure has been shrouded in speculation, he had nothing but kind words for the show’s lead.
“Sarah Jessica Parker is the nicest person I’ve ever met. She made me feel so at ease. I like everyone on there. It was fun. I never have bad blood with anybody. You know what I mean? I am nice. I show up on time.”
But his time on AJLT also came with personal challenges — including a life-altering wake-up call. On Rachel Bilson’s Broad Ideas podcast, he added
“I was in Hawaii and I was blackout drunk and my agent called and said, ‘They need you in New York. This is one of the reasons why I’m sober … On the plane, I thought, ‘I’m just gonna get s–t faced,’ so I was in a blackout when we landed in New York.”
He further said,
“I remember going and being so high and drunk. When I was reading the script, I couldn’t even understand what the f–k it was even saying. It was a nightmare. I remember thinking, ‘This is never going to happen again — I have to get sober.’”
