Carrie Ann Inaba's dating history got the spotlight when she began a relationship with Artem Chigvintsev after meeting him on So You Think You Can Dance in 2006. They spent close to three years together before parting ways. Carrie Ann Inaba emphasized at the time that the split was friendly, calling him “a fine gentleman” and adding,
“I have never gone out with somebody that grounded, always ready to talk it out. I’m very happy for him and the success he’s having.”
Carrie Ann Inaba eventually moved on and met Jesse Sloan through eHarmony. By September 2012, however, their engagement had ended. A representative told Us Weekly,
“They decided early in the summer to break off their engagement and have remained friends.”
Inaba’s second engagement came later, followed by her relationship with Fabien Viteri, which began in 2020. It lasted under a year. In May 2021, she told fans that she was single “again.”
Carrie Ann Inaba opened up about her non-romantic companionship:

In a November 7, 2024, Parade piece, Carrie Ann Inaba’s appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark was highlighted for the judge’s unusually open discussion regarding her relationship status. Speaking with hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, Inaba addressed whether she had been dating anyone. Kelly Ripa praised her youthful appearance, saying, “You don't age,” prompting Inaba to credit her single lifestyle.
“Singlism is probably why I'm not aging because I don't have a relationship,”
she joked, adding that her life had become simpler and easier to manage.
Consuelos commented, “You're dating yourself,” and Inaba agreed, replying,
“I'm more than dating myself, I married myself.”
She went on to say she had a “companion,” clarifying immediately that he was “not a boyfriend.” Inaba encouraged the audience by saying,
“I highly suggest companionism.”
When Ripa questioned whether the setup was a “friends with benefits” relationship, Inaba pushed back, explaining it was purely “companionship” with no “sexual relationship.” She described the bond by saying,
“He's the person I call when I need somebody, and I'm the person he calls and it's really beautiful.”
Carrie Ann Inaba left fans puzzled with a birthday message to ex Fabien Viteri:

A Parade report noted that Carrie Ann Inaba caught fans off guard in September 2023 with a warm birthday post dedicated to Fabien Viteri. The picture of the two together raised eyebrows, especially since she had shared a year earlier that the couple had ended their relationship for the second time. “Sometimes life throws us big curve balls,” Inaba wrote beneath the photo.
“Grateful we both made it through our 2023 still smiling and laughing … Grateful that we are still close after all we’ve been through.”
Viteri chimed in publicly, responding,
“Yes indeed, thank you K for your thoughts, words, surprises, and specially for sharing the love and the [dogs].”
Curious followers asked if the pair had reconciled, but Inaba moved quickly to clear things up.
“Sorry for the confusion … we aren’t actually together, we are still close friends. I’m just grateful for our friendship after all we’ve been through. And wishing him a happy birthday,” she explained.
Tensions flare on DWTS as Carrie Ann Inaba confronts heckler mid-judging:

E! News reported that Carrie Ann Inaba found herself in a tense moment during the DWTS season 34 finale on Nov. 25. She had been mid-sentence, giving Jordan Chiles and Ezra Sosa her notes, when someone in the ballroom shouted out in Jordan’s defense, calling her a “queen.”
The outburst stopped Inaba cold.
“What? What did you say?!”
she shouted back before Alfonso Ribeiro stepped in to defuse the moment.
“Alright, alright, it's alright, don't worry about that—Derek, you're up,” he said.
Carrie Ann Inaba had been discussing their paso doble to “Breakin’ Dishes,” offering both praise and a gentle correction.
“You're a pleasure to work with because you are so intense,” she told Jordan.
“I love that you attack every movement full out. I think this number, when you first started, your attack was a little too strong, and it felt like it disconnected you just a tiny bit.”
Off-camera, Inaba had also recently reflected on her judging style, admitting she held the female contestants to a higher bar.
“I understand what it is to be a woman, so I can get into more detail about what I’m seeing,” she said.
As she explained to Variety,
“None of us are ever 100 percent right. But I’m willing to risk that and speak to them so that they have the opportunity to grow.”
The moment may have sparked a brief flare of drama. Still, for Carrie Ann Inaba, it circled back to what she has always insisted on: speaking openly, pushing dancers to grow, and staying steady in the chaos of live television.
