Charlie Sheen recently opened up about his parents, mother Janet Templeton, who is a former actress, and father, Martin Sheen, in his new memoir, "The Book of Sheen: A Memoir." According to People Magazine, the "Two and a Half Men" actor particularly reflected on what he initially considered to be the biggest betrayal from his father, who had turned him in to the police after he had violated his probation back in 1998. During his appearance on Good Morning America earlier this week, Sheen recounted the incident and said:

“It felt like the biggest betrayal you can possibly endure," he said of the moment. I saw it as love eventually, but in the moment, it’s like in the book when my bodyguard comes to the door. The U.S. Marshalls are on the way. We’re leaving in 5."

Charlie Sheen, whose birth name is Carlos Irwin Estévez, was born to parents Janet Templeton and actor Martin Sheen, whose real name is Ramon Estévez. Janet Templeton and Martin Sheen have been married for sixty-four years, having tied the knot back in 1961.

More about Charlie Sheen's parents, Janet Templeton and Martin Sheen, as the actor opens up about his life in his new memoir

Charlie Sheen's mother, Janet Templeton, whose full name is Janet Elizabeth Templeton, was born on July 8, 1944, in Dayton, Ohio. Not much is known about her early life, but according to Distractify, Janet attended The New School of Social Research as an art student.

In 1960, she met her future husband, Martin Sheen, who was then an up-and-coming actor. The couple dated for a few months before marrying on December 23, 1961. They would soon welcome four children, all of whom went on to become actors in their own right.

In a 2022 exclusive interview with Closer Magazine, Martin Sheen recounted how he met his wife Janet Templeton, and said:

"I was in New York as a youngster starting in 1959, and I was there for 10 years. Jan and I met there, were married there, and all our children were born there. Those 10 years were vital in my life as a husband, father, an activist and an actor."

Janet Templeton, who also goes by Janet Sheen, is also a producer. According to her IMDB profile, she has appeared in movies such as "Rated X" and "Kennedy." She has also produced several films, including "The Way," "The Way: Chapter 2," and "Beverly Hills Brat."

Martin Sheen, whose full name is Ramón Gerard Antonio Estévez, was born on August 3, 1940, to parents who were immigrants from Spain and Ireland. In his interview with Closer Magazine, Martin Sheen spoke about what inspired him to pursue an entertainment career. He said:

"As a teenager, summer stock productions came to my hometown, Dayton, Ohio, every summer. That was my only connection to professional theater. And I grew up going to the movies."

He also shared how his father was initially hesitant about his career choice, and added:

"You couldn’t blame him. Both my parents were immigrants. My father was from Spain, and my mother was from Ireland. My real name is Ramon Estévez . My father was very practical. He was a factory worker for most of his adult life, and he wanted me to go to college and improve my chances of making a better living than he did. We had some very, very painful confrontations about it.”

Martin Sheen also opened up about how he now regrets his decision to change his name, saying:

"That’s one of my regrets. I never changed my name officially. It’s still Ramon Estévez on my birth certificate. It’s on my marriage license, my passport, driver’s license. Sometimes you get persuaded when you don’t have enough insight or even enough courage to stand up for what you believe in, and you pay for it later. But, of course, I’m only speaking for mysself."

Back in 2011, Janet Templeton had criticized Donald Trump after he claimed that he had previously warned Brooke Mueller about marrying Charlie Sheen, calling him "a disaster." The issue rose when Mueller filed a restraining order against Charlie Sheen, leading to the removal of their two sons from his home. The couple had married in 2008 but divorced in 2010 after two years of marriage.

After Donald Trump made the statement regarding Charlie Sheen, Janet Templeton wrote an email to some of her friends. In the message, which was obtained by The New York Post, Janet Templeton defended her son while blaming Mueller for allegedly causing Charlie Sheen to relapse. It read:

"THE DONALD IS SPREADING SUCH VICIOUS LIES ABOUT CHARLIE. IS THERE ANY WAY TO STOP HIM?BROOKE...HAD BEEN TO 13 REHABS BEFORE MEETING CHARLIE. SHE DRANK AND DRUGGED DURING PREGNANCY AND HAD SUCH A PARTY GIRL REP BEFORE SHE MET HIM."

She further added:

"DONALD HAS GONE ON NATIONAL TV TWICE TO SAY CHARLIE BROUGHT HER INTO THIS SCENE," she noted. "ACTUALLY, HE HAD BEEN SOBER FOR SOME TIME BEFORE HE HAD MET HER AND WE WERE CONVINCED THAT SHE WOULD BE HIS DOWNFALL. SHE IS ONLY HAPPY WHEN SHE KNOWS HE IS IN TROUBLE OR MISERABLE. SHE IS SO VERY SICK."

Charlie Sheen's telling memoir, "The Book of Sheen: A Memoir," was published just two days before the premiere of the Netflix documentary exploring his life. The documentary titled "aka Charlie Sheen" releases today, on September 10, and is now available to stream on the platform.
