Business Insider reported that sportscaster Samantha Steele, now known as Samantha Ponder, married former NFL player Christian Ponder in a courthouse in Wisconsin in December 2012. In a 2022 conversation with the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Samantha looked back on her relationship with Christian Ponder and shared when she knew he was “the one.”

“I don’t like him to know this because I try not to compliment him, really, ever. I pretty much knew immediately, look, you get to the point where you’ve dated enough and you know yourself well enough. I knew what I was looking for, and I certainly knew what I wasn’t looking for. I could tell pretty much immediately who wasn’t the one," she shared.
"With Christian, immediately, I didn’t already know he wasn’t the one. It all happened really fast. I’ve heard people say, ‘When you know, you know.’ That’s really how it went down for us,” she added.

Christian Ponder, who played six seasons in the NFL, stepped away from the sport in 2017. The transition wasn’t easy. Like many former athletes, he found it difficult to replace the sense of teamwork and motivation that came naturally in professional sports. This realization inspired him to launch The Post, a community platform that brings together former athletes now pursuing careers in business.

When Forbes chronicled Christian Ponder’s shift from sports to business, it described a journey marked by uncertainty, drive, and rediscovery. Born in Tampa and raised in Dallas, Christian Ponder grew up in a household where competition wasn’t just encouraged, it was a way of life. His father had once played football for Florida State, and his mother had also been an athlete. That environment shaped his early dreams of playing professional baseball, though football eventually stole his heart.

As a teenager, Christian Ponder convinced his father to help him put together a highlight tape and mailed it to more than 100 Division I colleges. The persistence paid off: offers rolled in, and he chose Florida State University, his parents’ alma mater, as his home field. At FSU, Christian Ponder immersed himself in both academics and athletics, earning a degree in finance, completing an MBA, and beginning a second master’s in sports management. His coach’s belief that he could make the NFL gave him a new target to chase.

“I was really driven, I spent a lot of time working to improve,” he told Forbes.

That work ethic carried him to the Senior Bowl, where he was named MVP, and soon after achieved his dream of playing in the NFL. However, after six seasons and multiple injuries, life after football proved challenging. Ponder dabbled in finance and television broadcasting, searching for fulfillment, but the corporate world rarely offered the camaraderie or discipline that defined his playing years. He even joined networking circles like SoHo House, hoping to find that missing sense of belonging. None of them clicked.

It was the realization that no space quite replicated the unity of a team that inspired him to build one. He launched The Post, a community for former athletes entering business, designed to bring back the collaboration, trust, and shared ambition that once fueled his locker room days.

In October 2025, Samantha Ponder drew national attention after sharing her views on transgender participation in women’s sports. Ponder took to X (formerly Twitter) to describe an incident involving her middle school daughter during a basketball tournament in New York City. She wrote that her daughter had been “guarding an obviously naturally born boy in a girls' (basketball) tournament,” calling the situation “ridiculous.”

“It’s happened many times now living in NYC… The parents cheer while the boy is physical and dominant against the girls. The all-girls team loses,” she posted.
“We’ve taught our kids to never make fun of the kid… to always be kind and loving. That the parents are the problem. That no kid is born in the wrong body. But if I’m honest, watching my daughter get posted up by a boy whose parents have deceived him in this way is maddening.”

Neither New York City nor the state of New York had regulations governing transgender athletes’ participation in youth sports. However, a legal battle over the issue was unfolding in Nassau County, Long Island. Ponder later clarified in replies to social media users that she did not blame the child involved but rather the parents.

In a world where sports often reflect the complexities of society, Samantha Ponder’s voice has become part of a broader national dialogue, one rooted in love for the game, her children, and the values she holds close. Her husband, Christian Ponder, knows something about reinvention and standing firm during pressure. From quarterbacking in the NFL to building The Post, a space for athletes rediscovering purpose beyond competition, Christian Ponder and Samantha continue to evolve, not just as public figures but as partners committed to faith, family, and honest conversation.
