Football icon, Cristiano Ronaldo, is arguably one of the most recognizable faces on Earth. Naturally, his relationship status has always been tabloid fodder and the topic of social media conversation since he first appeared in the limelight.
Although the Portuguese football maestro has attempted to keep his private life under the radar, reports confirm he was romantically involved with supermodel Irina Shayk for five years beginning in 2010. He was also rumored to have had a short-lived romance with Kim Kardashian. Other reported "situationships" were also suggested by the media and fans until he met Georgina Rodriguez in 2016.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez have been in a relationship since, and in the latest news, the mercurial star has finally proposed. They have been together for eight years now and share two children.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez - Relationship Timeline
Cristiano Ronaldo first met his current fiancée, Georgina Rodriguez, at a Gucci store in Madrid where she was working at the time. In her I Am Georgina series on Netflix, she recalls the surreal nature of her courtship:
"Many times he'd come after work. He would come, I remember once, once in a Bugatti. My coworkers went crazy. They get there on the bus, and I would leave in a Bugatti. I mean people couldn't believe it."
This phase of their relationship occupied the early stages of 2017, before the pair eventually made it Instagram official a few months later in May. This was definitely a step in the right direction for the couple, and shortly after, Cristiano Ronaldo even included Georgina in the posts he shared on Instagram, welcoming his twins via surrogate to the world.
Only a couple of weeks later, in July 2017, the pair announced they were expecting a child together. This cast an even brighter spotlight on Georgina, who, for her part, handled it with grace and dignity.
In November of 2017, she gave birth to their daughter, Alana Martina. Later, in an interview for ¡HOLA!, Georgina shared some insights about her relationship with Cristiano, as well as a look at their family dynamic:
"When I have him next to me, I have everything. The children are our happiness — we wake up and the first thing we do is hug and kiss them."
She continued:
"We both chose the name. Cristiano chose Alana and I chose Martina. We decided to give her both names that each of us chose. We thought it was even more special."
The couple continued to stay strong and committed over the years, although engagement rumors continued to be sparked and subsequently shut down. In October 2021, the pair announced Georgina was expecting twins.
Georgina has really flourished since the release of her Netflix series in January 2022. The couple has maintained a tight-knit family unit, and Rodriguez deserves a lot of the credit. Congratulations and best wishes are for the two who still seem very much in love.
