Who is Drake Bell’s ex-wife Janet Von Schmeling? All we know as actor opens up about raising son with healthy masculinity views

As per a recent article by People, American actor and musician Drake Bell shared that he is raising his son to have a healthy view of masculinity.

In a recent episode of the podcast Tea Time with Raven and Miranda, aired on July 3, Drake Bell shared his opinions on masculinity with the hosts—Raven-Symoné and her wife Miranda Pearman-Maday.

Drake Bell shares his son with Janet Von Schmeling. Bell and Schmeling were married for five years before legally divorcing in 2023.

Bell shared on the podcast that he doesn’t feel that “masculinity is something that you teach” when it comes to his 4-year-old son. He also narrated an incident where his son rushed into an elevator without allowing two women to step out first.

"I looked at him and I said, 'It's really important when we're on the elevator and there's girls on the elevator, you have to let the girls off first and the boys go off second,” Drake Bell told the podcast hosts.

"It's just manners. I don't think that [masculinity is] something to be taught because it's something that you're discovering,” Drake further shared his thoughts about masculanity.

Bell further said that he doesn’t impose any societal notions on his son and that his son can be all cuddly and kissy.

"Now in society, it's like, 'Oh, I need to break my son of that. That's a very feminine trait. I can't have my son walking around kissing Dad on the lips "

"I don't think that there's a separation there [with masculine and feminine traits]," the actor insisted. Drake Bell elaborated his thoughts:”I think that's just the boxes that we're putting that in."

Drake Bell and Janet Von Schmeling tied the knot in 2018. The couple got divorced in 2023 after dating each other for five years. Bell and Schmeling married secretly in 2018 but disclosed their marriage in June 2021 on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). The couple also announced that they share a son together.

As per People, the official Instagram profile of Schmeling says that she has a career in martial arts.

According to Page Six, after the separation, Janet confirmed her relationship with boyfriend Jim Perez in October 2023. As per her bio, she is currently living in Florida.

As per People Magazine, the news of the separation came a few days after Bell was arrested for behaving inappropriately with a 15-year-old girl. The charges stem from an incident that dates back to December 1, 2017. The victim accused Bell of sexual misconduct, but the allegations were disputed by his attorneys. He later pleaded guilty and received two years of probation and community service.

Janet Von Schmeling was left estranged by Drake Bell, after which she cited irreconcilable reasons for the separation. Bell later took to X and gave an explanation about his mysterious disappearance:

"You leave your phone in the car and don't answer for the night and this?" Bell posted on Twitter (now known as X).

Bell has stated that he wants to raise his son with emotional awareness and respect for others, free from traditional gender expectations. His recent comments highlight an effort to approach parenting without reinforcing conventional ideas of masculinity.
