As per the Curtis Brown Group, Ed Sinclair has worked steadily as a writer and producer away from the spotlight. He led South of the River Pictures as Creative Director and penned Landscapers for Sky/HBO. The limited series earned critical praise, plus three BAFTA Craft Awards and a 2022 nomination for Best Miniseries.

Recently, Sinclair has made headlines due to his wife's honest conversation with Amy Poehler on an episode of the Good Hang podcast. For Olivia Colman, the cameras rolling didn’t make filming intimate scenes any less awkward.

“I don’t like it. I don’t like it,” she shared.

At 51, the Favourite star said her biggest fear on set was being asked to

“show any skin” or “pretend to have sex with someone.” “I feel like I’m being unfaithful,” she added, speaking of her long marriage to Ed Sinclair.

Even with assurances from crews about extra jeans, cushions, and staged distance, Olivia Colman admitted she never felt comfortable.

“I don’t want to do that with someone I don’t know,” she shared.

Olivia Colman kept things candid during her appearance on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast. After Poehler applauded “people that are good” at shooting love scenes, Colman admitted she had leaned on intimacy coordinators for help.

“[Intimacy coordinator] Ita O’Brien told me when I was about to orgasm … imagine the sun is hitting your face,” she revealed.

According to Us Weekly, Colman met Ed Sinclair back in their Cambridge days, long before Hollywood came calling. The actress also laughed at her own romantic tribute to Sinclair. She showed Poehler the tattoo of her husband’s first name on her forearm, but quickly undercut the sentiment with a cheeky joke.

“It’s a bit like he pissed on me,” Colman shared.

She later confirmed the decision was entirely her “choice.”

Olivia Colman shared parenting challenges while raising children with Ed Sinclair

As per People, Colman and Sinclair share three children: two sons, Hall and Finn, and a daughter. Finn was born in 2005, and Hall in 2007. Their daughter joined the family in 2015, during the period when Colman was filming The Night Manager. She later told Radio Times that the experience had been difficult while pregnant.

“I just can’t retain my lines like I normally would, I’ve got a bit of nappy brain going on,” she shared.

Colman maintained privacy for her children and said that balancing travel with parenting had been a constant challenge.

“Ed being at home also means that he can look after the children if I’m away, and he’s a far better parent than me,” she joked with the Daily Mail.

She added:

“So, although I miss the kids terribly if I’m away working, I know our little boys are in the best possible hands. When I get back they go, ‘Oh no, she’s not going to cook is she? She’s bound to burn something!’ ”

Speaking with British Vogue, she added that she was making an effort to travel less and leave bigger gaps between projects so she could focus on her family life.

Olivia Colman revealed the secret to working with Ed Sinclair

Ed Sinclair didn’t just stay behind the scenes in Olivia Colman’s life; he wrote for her, too. The actor-turned-writer penned Landscapers, the 2021 series that Colman led on screen. Colman spoke with Yahoo about working alongside her husband.

“He’s always there when I’m feeling like I did a bad job or something, so we’re there to pick each other up,” she shared.

She admitted the trick to keeping their marriage strong was knowing when to leave the scripts behind.

“We worked out very early on that it’s much better if he’s a writer, I’m an actor and we don’t talk about it, It’s much easier not to talk about the work,” she explained.

The couple teamed up again for Wicked Little Letters, with Ed Sinclair producing and Colman leading the cast.

Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch share the secrets to lasting love

For Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch, the past year has meant inhabiting a marriage on the brink. In The Roses, the pair step into the roles of Ivy and Theo Rose, a glamorous couple whose relationship crumbles into bitterness and divorce. It is a stark contrast to the actors’ own bond.

Friends since their early days in a radio studio, Colman and Cumberbatch bring an easy familiarity to their work.

“I fret, she doesn’t faff,” Cumberbatch said with a smile in a BBC interview.
“She’s really patient with my fretting and I love her non-faffing. We really do get on incredibly well.”

Both were asked if portraying such a fractious marriage changed their views on love. The answer was no, though Cumberbatch admitted the role prompted him to reflect on what sustains a partnership:

“Don’t be complacent and keep the conversation between you going rather than thinking one of you is always right… never stop working at it,” he shared.

Colman was equally candid. For her, it comes down to small gestures:

“Being nice and checking in on each other.”

And what did they actually learn from their film’s explosive marital breakdown? The pair shared their lessons with a laugh:

“Not to have hard fruit in the house, don’t throw knives or wear headphones in the bath.”

The Roses is a sharp look at what happens when ambition, work, and family life collide, something both Colman and Cumberbatch admitted they’ve had to carefully manage in their own lives.
