Elizabeth Holmes’ personal life continues to draw attention as she serves her prison sentence for fraud linked to Theranos. Her partner, Billy Evans, remains an important part of her life during this period. Their family visit during Thanksgiving again brought focus to their relationship and how they are raising their children while Holmes is incarcerated.
Holmes and Evans first gained media attention when they publicly acknowledged their relationship several years prior to Holmes' conviction. According to People Magazine, the pair met in 2017 and quickly became a couple, and were engaged by 2018. They also share two children.
According to an exclusive 2025 interview with People Magazine, Elizabeth Holmes stated that although the two never got officially married, their bond is much stronger than a piece of paper.
The couple has maintained their relationship throughout Elizabeth Holmes' trial, conviction, and sentence to prison. Additionally, being in the cast of The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley brought further scrutiny to Holmes' and Evans' personal and business lives.
Billy Evans: Background and early life
Billy Evans has roots in a prestigious family that runs numerous hotels in California under Evans Hotel Group. Since he was young, Billy had been involved with his family's hotel business. However, eventually he branched out to work in different areas of business and to study outside of the hotel industry.
He received a degree in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and, after graduation, he worked in the technology sector for a short time.
People Magazine reported that Billy met Elizabeth Holmes (the creator of the company Theranos) at a charity event in 2017, through a friend. The pair got engaged in 2018, and Evans has supported Holmes through her trial.
Engagement, children, and life during Elizabeth Holmes’ prison term
In a 2025 exclusive interview with People Magazine, Holmes confirmed that the two never officially got married. She stated,
“Maybe we’ll get married someday. But our bond is more than a piece of paper. We bought rings on Amazon before I went to prison. It’s just special to me because our love is deep. It’s real.”
After their engagement in 2018, Evans and Holmes welcomed their first child in 2021 and their second in 2023. They remained together as a family through Holmes' court appearances.
According to People Magazine, following her incarceration at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas, her partner, Evans and their children visit Theranos founder twice a week.
On Thanksgiving 2025, photographs of the family together were captured while they were visiting Elizabeth Holmes in federal prison; Holmes was observed conversing with Evans and her parents on a park bench, under a tree.
