Finneas O’Connell does not come from an ordinary family. The singer and producer is best known for working alongside his sister, Billie Eilish, whose songs made her one of the most successful teen musicians. The pair share writing and production credits that earned her major awards.

Their parents have show business backgrounds of their own. As reported by The Sun, Maggie Baird acted in Bones, The X-Files, and Six Feet Under. She spent time on Broadway, released her album "We Sail" in 2009, and later wrote and starred in the indie drama "Life Inside Out" (2013). She also voiced characters in games like Mass Effect and Saints Row. In 2019, she joined Billie on her world tour.

Patrick O’Connell, their father, appeared in several projects, including The West Wing, Iron Man, and Baskets. Finneas had also made headlines of his own. According to People, he got engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Claudia Sulewski, marking the start of a new chapter in his life.

Finneas O’Connell and Claudia Sulewski started a new chapter in their relationship when they got engaged after seven years together. The proposal happened on Sept. 22, and by Sept. 24, the couple announced the news on Instagram with the caption:

“forever and ever 9.22.”

The post featured photos of the couple at sunset and a video of them flying to the proposal site by helicopter. Sulewski later shared additional images, highlighting her cushion-cut diamond engagement ring.

Finneas, first crossed paths with Sulewski on a dating app in 2018. Their meeting sparked immediate inspiration, he began writing “Claudia” within hours. Lyrics like “I think you're gonna change my plans / With those emerald eyes” suggested Finneas had already pictured a future together. Their creative connection continued throughout their relationship.

In 2022, Sulewski appeared in and directed the video for “Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa,” another track O’Connell wrote about her. Reflecting on the Paris-set video, she told Vogue,

“It’s a gushy video, for sure!”

She also noted:

“We’re pretty deep in it at this point — we’ve been dating for almost four years, so I think the cat’s out of the bag.”

In February 2020, Finneas O’Connell pushed back against the idea that his family connections had eased his and Billie Eilish’s rise. The Independent reported that a now-deleted X post accused the siblings of gaining an advantage because their parents worked in show business. O’Connell, who produced and co-wrote much of Eilish’s award-winning music, clarified the family’s background in a post on Twitter (X).

“During my life time, our parents were never able to fully financially support us off of their work as actors. Our dad worked 12 hour days 7 days a week as a construction worker for Mattel and our mom was a teacher. Our parents gave us love but knew no one in the record industry,” he explained.

He went further, noting that in 2019 he paid off his parents’ mortgage. That same year, Eilish put them on her touring payroll, even though, as he shared, they often told their children they would have worked for free. O’Connell wrote

“Anyone who saw us tour in 2019 knows our dad insists on sweeping the stage each night before we perform,”

This offers a glimpse into their behind-the-scenes family dynamic.

Billie Eilish said her parents struggled to find acting success:

Maggie Baird and Patrick O’Connell both performed on stage and screen. O’Connell took small guest roles in The West Wing and NYPD Blue and also appeared on Broadway. Despite their experience, the couple struggled to establish steady success in Los Angeles after starting a family, a situation that worried Billie Eilish. She expressed her concerns about the entertainment industry in an interview with Rolling Stone.

“Acting is super weird, you can work for years and years and be the best in the world and never get a role, and you can be mediocre, do one audition, and become a huge star. For years, I saw my parents beat up over the fact that they didn’t have it better,” she explained.
“And that drove me insane — because they were really good! My dad is the best actor I’ve ever seen. And my mom can do all these voices and characters — she’s incredible. So I wish they’d had more recognition. I actually want to make a movie and put them in it — I’ve never told anyone that,” she added.

Since Eilish’s career gained momentum, the family worked as part of Team Eilish. They toured together, with Baird managing her daughter’s daily schedule while O’Connell used his carpentry and technical skills to keep everything running smoothly.
