Frank Somerville was arrested earlier this week in Oakland on Monday evening on charges of battery. According to reports, he got into a physical altercation with a family member, with some reports claiming the family member was his daughter, Callie Somerville. Frank Somerville has two daughters. He welcomed his first daughter, producer Sydney Somerville, with his former wife, and the couple later adopted their second daughter, Callie Somerville, when she was just a child. Callie is now a college student.
According to San Francisco Chronicle, the former KTVU-TV anchor was released by authorities on Tuesday, after which he issued a statement saying that the fight began as he was defending himself from his daughter following a financial disagreement. Frank Somerville later released a statement, on Facebook, in a now deleted post, a part of which read:
“I love my daughter more than anything in the world. I would never deliberately try to hurt her. But bad things happen in battle."
More about Frank Somerville's two daughters, as the former KTVU-TV anchor is arrested on battery charges
Frank Somerville's arrest on Monday is not his first. In December 2021, he was arrested for driving under the influence, and later in the same year, he faced further scrutiny when his speech slurred during a live broadcast. He was later placed on an indefinite leave by the KTVU-TV News Network. In 2023, he was arrested twice in the same day after he got into an altercation with family members.
Frank Somerville was previously married to TV producer Donna Wright. The couple were married for more than twenty years during which they welcomed two children. According to The Daily Mail, the Wright filed for divorce in 2022, citing incorrigible differences.
Their first daughter, Sydney Somerville, leads a private life away from the spotlight. According to her LinkedIn profile, she attended Northwestern University, graduating in 2022 with a degree in Communications. Upon graduating, she worked as a Talent Acquisition Coordinator at Mixpanel, for a few months. After this, she worked at NewtonX as a Client Delivery Associate. Currently, she works at iHeartMedia, as a podcast producer, a role she has held since February 2024. Previously she had also worked as a part time production assistant at NBC Sports.
Frank Somerville's youngest daughter Callie Somerville, was adopted by him and his former wife, back in 2004. Not much is publicly known about her, but the Emmy-winning news anchor has often spoken about his daughter and expressed the joy of adopting her. Just three months ago, Frank Somerville had shared a post celebrating her birthday. He said:
"My god my baby is about to turn 21!!!!!I love Callie with all my heart. I remember poking my head in her room every night after I finished to 10 pm newscast. I would just stare at how beautiful she looked sleeping. And I’d always say the same thing to myself: She doesn’t look like me. I don’t look like her. But she’s my daughter. And I’m her dad. And now she’s so happy living in her own apartment (last picture) and going to school and working. Thank you Erika for letting us adopt your beautiful daughter right after she was born."
After his recent altercation with his daughter, in his now deleted Facebook post, Somerville, who is now nine months sober, referred to Callie Somerville as a "full blown weed addict" adding that he hopes she gets the treatment she currently needs.
