More about Hilary Duff's mother, Susan Duff, as Frankie Muniz blames her for the fallout in his friendship with the actress
Hilary Duff's mother, Susan Duff, has been intricately involved with her daughter's career since the very beginning. According to Entertainment Now, back in 2003, when the negotiations for a second Lizzie McGuire movie began, it was Susan Duff's involvement that reportedly prevented the film from moving forward.
In a 2003 interview with the outlet, Susan Duff explained her reasons for standing her ground and demanding that Disney pay her daughter a $500,000 bonus upfront instead of waiting for the first film to gross $50 million. The deal also required that Hilary receive the advance payment on top of her $ 4 million paycheck. Susan said:
"Disney thought they’d be able to bully us into accepting whatever offer they wanted to make, and they couldn’t. We walked away from a sequel. They walked away from a franchise. We weren’t feeling the love. They weren’t giving Hilary the respect she deserved.”
She further added:
"Disney kept leaking stuff and using undisclosed sources. And because we didn’t say anything, it sounded like it was true. I thought it would run its course, but they kept coming at us. In my wildest dreams, I cannot imagine adults beating up on a 15-year-old kid in the papers like they have.”
In his conversation on the Joe Vulpis Podcast, Frankie Muniz also added:
"I've actually never told this story, and I might get in trouble for it, but I don't care. I'm 40.” He continued, “ So her mom was like, ‘Do you know what you're doing this summer? What are you doing this summer?’ And I go, ‘Oh, I'm filming this movie where I'm playing like a junior James Bond. It's called Agent Cody Banks.'"
Soon after this conversation with Frankie Muniz, Susan Duff managed to secure a deal with the studio to get her daughter the coveted role of Muniz's love interest, Natalie Connors. This was allegedly done without consultating Muniz, who had a say in who would be cast opposite him. In his conversation with host Joe Vulpis, he added how he and Hilary Duff shared awkward moments during filming due to their characters' romantic story arc. He also revealed that since the last day of filming, he and Hilary have never talked to each other. He said:
"And if I told you I've never talked to Hilary since the last day of filming. I've not said one word to her since then. So that's the truth of that. No one knows about my Hilary Duff story."
At the moment the "How I Met Your Father" actress has not commented on Frankie Muniz's remarks about her mother.
