More about Jussie Smollett and Jabari Redd

American actor and singer Jussie Smollett recently proposed to his boyfriend, Jabari Redd, as per Smollett's latest Instagram post. His announcement posts featured images of him getting down on one knee, with the next image featuring Redd brimming with happiness.

Jussie Smollett is an American actor and singer best known for playing Jamal Lyon in the Fox drama series Empire. During the time he played Lyon, in 2019, Smollett claimed that he was attacked by two men late at night while he was on his way from a Subway sandwich shop.

Smollett claimed that the two men yelled racist and homophobic slurs, put a rope around his neck, and doused him with bleach. Prosecutors alleged that Jussie Smollett staged the attack for media attention and paid $3,500 to two brothers, Abimbola "Bola" and Olabinjo "Ola" Osundairo, for helping him pull it off. In May 2019, Smollett settled a civil lawsuit with the City of Chicago and agreed to pay $50,000 to charity and has maintained his innocence.

This settlement resolved the city's attempt to recoup costs from its investigation into Smollett's claim of a hate crime, which authorities alleged was staged. Despite the settlement, Jussie Smollett has consistently maintained his innocence.
