According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 36-year-old Harris has been kept in official custody for almost twenty-one days after he was arrested in Okinawa for smuggling drugs. Jeremy O. Harris was arrested at Naha Airport on November 16, 2025, after customs officers reportedly found 780 milligrams of a crystal substance, which contained the recreational drug MDMA. The drug was discovered in his tote bag.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, while Jeremy O. Harris' case has been pushed in the direction of formal charges, the authorities have not yet revealed if the renowned playwright obtained legal representation or sought a plea. As per The Hollywood Reporter, Harris, who was supposed to attend the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia to promote the 2025 drama film Erupcja, directed by Pete Ohs, has been dropped from the film festival's programming. Harris was one of the producers of the film, which stars the British singer Charlie XCX. The Red Sea International Film Festival's officials made no comments regarding Harris's absence at the event.
