Critically acclaimed playwright Jeremy O. Harris has found himself in trouble following his arrest in Japan due to drug charges. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 36-year-old Harris has been kept in official custody for almost twenty-one days after he was arrested in Okinawa for smuggling drugs. Jeremy O. Harris was arrested at Naha Airport on November 16, 2025, after customs officers reportedly found 780 milligrams of a crystal substance, which contained the recreational drug MDMA. The drug was discovered in his tote bag.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, while Jeremy O. Harris' case has been pushed in the direction of formal charges, the authorities have not yet revealed if the renowned playwright obtained legal representation or sought a plea. Harris, besides being a successful playwright who has been nominated for a Tony Award for his play Slave Play, is also a producer and actor. It was in 2018 that he garnered major public and media attention after he was nominated for the Tony Awards.

Jeremy O. Harris, who attended the Yale School of Drama from which he graduated, has also worked in television and movies. Harris is one of the producers of the highly rated HBO original drama series Euphoria, starring Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and Sydney Sweeney. The multi-talented Harris has also worked as a supervising producer on the critically acclaimed HBO miniseries Irma Vep, written and directed by Olivier Assayas.

He got engaged to his romantic partner, Arvand Khosravi, an entertainment executive, in 2020. When it comes to Harris' career, over the years, he has built major connections not only in the film and television industry but also in the world of fashion and art. He has a close relationship with artists such as Aaron Aujla and Emily Bode, who are designers.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Harris, who was supposed to attend the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia to promote the 2025 drama film Erupcja, directed by Pete Ohs, has been dropped from the film festival's programming. Harris was one of the producers of the film, which stars the British singer Charlie XCX. The Red Sea International Film Festival's officials made no comments regarding Harris's absence at the event.
