Josh Duhamel is getting candid about undergoing testosterone replacement therapy (TRT).

In his recent conversation with Men’s Health Lab on Thursday, June 12, the 52-year-old revealed that his wife played a key role in influencing him to begin the hormone replacement therapy.

“It's important for her that I stay as young and virile for as long as I can," he said.

Josh Duhamel, who was first married to Fergie, tied the knot with his wife Audra Mari, 31, in 2022. They welcomed their son, Shepherd Lawrence Duhamel, in January 2024. The actor also shares son Axl with his ex-wife.

Outside of intimacy, the Life As We Know It actor also feels like the therapy has had a positive impact on his “overall wellness” as well.

"Just having that energy, that that that desire to go out and achieve, be a better dad, be a better brother, be a better friend, be a better business owner, you don't taper off like you would normally—and I think that that's also one of the benefits of it, mentally and physically," he said.

Josh Duhamel, who is launching his own wellness brand, said that he first noticed things were off with his body a few years ago. His energy levels were going down, and his high-octane lifestyle was suddenly too intense for him. Speaking at the Men’s Health Lab event in New York this Thursday, he recounted:

“I took an inventory, a personal inventory, of how I was feeling, and I knew that I wasn't quite where I was at five, 10, years before. That's when I got myself tested, and realized my levels were low, and that's when I decided to start doing it."

He got his blood work done soon after, only to find out he had low testosterone. Harvard Health has reported that while testosterone in most men remains steady throughout their lifetime, some can experience a gradual dip by the age of 40. This can, in turn, culminate in decreased muscle mass and strength, hair loss, low libido, and more.

The All My Children actor had heard of TRT by then and the taboo surrounding it.

“I'd been hearing about this for a while—about testosterone replacement therapy—and it was one of those things that I didn't want to talk about, neither did anybody I was asking about it," he said.

But he decided to give it a shot anyway.

“I started taking testosterone injections and began to feel really good,” he recently told Forbes. “I had the urge to get back out and do the things I didn’t have the desire to do anymore,” he added.

In Thursday’s conversation, Josh Duhamel reiterated the positive aspects of the hormonal treatment:

"It’s just one of those things that just changed my world. I literally got my mojo back. And now it's become, not so much about the aesthetics of it, as much as it is being around for my kids and being able to roll around the dirt with them like I could have when I was younger," he said.

During a recent episode of The Ed Mylett Show, Josh Duhamel, who had his first kid at the age of 40 and the second at 50, revealed that he initially felt ashamed of the therapy he was undergoing:

“Guys were asking me what I was doing and I didn’t want to talk about it,” Duhamel said. “I just told them I was eating really well and working out but the truth is I was doing TRT."

Josh Duhamel is venturing into the wellness world as he steps into the role of co-founder of Gatlan Health, which, according to its official website, aims to “help men reclaim their strength, confidence, and vitality through cutting-edge solutions and a holistic approach to wellness.”

On The Ed Mylett Show, he revealed that his fear of the taboo subject nearly got in the way of him launching the wellness brand:

“At first, my representatives were like, ‘No, you’re not going to be the face of a testosterone company! That’s not something you talk about!’” he recalled. “And I was like, ‘Maybe it is!’”

Josh Duhamel further told Forbes of his brand:

"We want to destigmatize something that men have been doing for years, and shine a light on it, and make it not so taboo. You can look and feel better for much longer. Why not take advantage of modern medicine?”
