Kate Beckinsale announced the death of her mother, Judy Loe, in a tribute posted on her Instagram. Loe passed away on July 15, 2025, at the age of 78 after battling stage 4 cancer.
The 51-year-old posted a carousel of pictures on her social media post along with a heartfelt tribute to her late mother. She wrote,
“I don’t want to post this. I am only posting this because I have had to register my mother‘s death certificate and it will soon become public record. She died the night of July 15th in my arms after immeasurable suffering.”
She concluded her message by saying that she loves her dearly and,
“this has been my greatest fear since finding my father dead at five, and I am here. Oh my Mama.. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. I am so sorry.”
Beckinsale was born to Loe and her first husband, Richard Beckinsale. He was also an actor like Loe and was known for his roles in sitcoms.
According to IMDB, his best-known characters were prison inmate Leonard Arthur "Lennie" Godber in Porridge (1974-1977) and its sequel series, Going Straight (1978). Later, Loe tied the knot with Roy Battersby, and they remained married until his death in 2024.

Judy Loe, born Judith Margaret Loe on 6 March 1947 in Urmston, Manchester, England, was an accomplished actress. She was best known for her extensive television career.
According to her IMDb profile, she was the only child of Nancy (Jones), a department store worker, and Norman Scarborough Loe, who worked in the equipment business. Loe attended the Urmston Grammar School and graduated with a BA in English and Drama from the University of Birmingham.

The couple got married in 1977, unfortunately, their marriage lasted for two years as Richard passed away in March 1979 at the age of 31, due to a heart attack. He was born to an Anglo-Burmese father, John Beckinsale, and an English mother, Maggie Barlow. His breakthrough role was as Geoffrey Scrimshaw in the sitcom, The Lovers.
After Beckinsale’s death, Judy Loe married for the second time. She tied the knot with TV director Roy Battersby in March 1997. During an interview with the Howard Stern Show in 2021, Beckinsale talked about her relationship with her stepdad and how her mother met him.
“She met my stepdad when I was nine. He was a director and moved in with my mom and brought his enormous amount of children, which I was kind of shocked by. It's great and they're still together.”
She added:
“I really lucked out with him. He's the best. We had some rough years getting adjusted, but no one's been a bigger champion. I really do feel lucky.”
He passed away in January 2024 after a brief period of illness at the age of 87. Judy Loe is survived by her daughter Kate Beckinsale and her grandchild Lily Mo Sheen.
