Justin Gimelstob's ex-wife, Cary Sinnott, accused him of stalking and assaulting her in a years-old restraining order, The Sun has reported.
Gimmelstob, 48, recently went public with Amanda Kloots, 43, following their appearance at the Unforgettable Evening cancer research event in Beverly Hills on Monday, April 28. Per the outlet, the former talk show host noted that her “courtship” with the retired tennis player is "very new," though she says it has been “absolutely lovely.”
However, fans are now voicing concern for Amanda amid allegations that he was abusive to his ex. The Sun has reported that Sinnott filed the restraining order request against Justin Gimelstob on February 29, 2016, amid their ongoing divorce at the time. The former filed for divorce in July 2015, three years after they wed.
Back in May 2012, The New York Times reported that Cary Kendall Sinnott is a psychotherapist who works at a private practice in LA. She graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania and earned a PhD. in psychology from the California Graduate Institute of the Chicago School in Los Angeles.
The abuse and domestic violence allegations against Justin Gimelstob explored:
As reported by The Sun, in her restraining order request, Cary Sinnott petitioned the court to grant her, her parents, and their then-two-year-old son Brandon protection against Justin Gimelstob. She outlined several alleged instances of abuse in the paperwork.
In one instance, which allegedly took place in February 2016, she claimed:
“For the second time this past week, Justin showed up at a class Brandon and I attend together to harass me, stalk me, say threatening and degrading things to me in front of Brandon and steal my cell phone. When Justin arrived, he began following me around the school and saying threatening and harassing things to me in front of Brandon.”
She added,
“Justin has physically assaulted, harassed, verbally attacked, and stolen from me in front of Brandon. He has threatened other emotional abuse against Brandon. He has verbally attacked [my parents] and broken into a house they own.”
In another incident, Cary accused Justin Gimelstob of engaging in a “pattern of physical assaults, verbal threats and assaults, stalking and harassment from December 5-7, 2015.”
“During that weekend (and the following Monday), Justin physically assaulted me twice in front of our son Brandon (once while he was holding Brandon in his arms) during a custodial exchange," she claimed. “Justin also informed me that he had placed a video recording device in my bedroom and had recordings of me having s*x with another man and intended to show them to Brandon.”
She accused her estranged husband of breaking into the home she was residing in before telling her she “shouldn’t bother setting the alarm" because he would continue to trespass.
“Justin also verbally threatened and assaulted me in front of Brandon and others, including by threatening that he would take Brandon away forever, that I would never see Brandon again, and that Justin wished he could hit me.”
However, on the same day Cary filed her complaint, Justin Gimelstob sought a restraining order against her. His request read as follows:
“During marriage up to the present time, no DVROs have been brought against me, but Cary has continually threatened to bring DVROs against me when she does not get what she wants in connection with custody of our son. I am an on-air commentator for professional tennis, a professional tennis coach for the ranked male tennis player in the United States, and an active board member of the Association of Tennis Professionals. As an on-air personality, my reputation is very important to the success of my career.”
He also accused his former wife of trying to levy false allegations against him to make him comply with her demands. He penned in his request at the time,
“Although Cary has had a boyfriend since August 2015, she continues to be obsessed about me having a girlfriend. In the text message I received, Cary taunts me by stating, “Poor girl, Justin. We all get it that you have a girlfriend but treat her with respect.”
Claiming that Cary called him a “terrible” and “horrible” father, Justin Gimelstob added:
“I was next to Brandon, and I went to give him another fruit snack out of the bag and as I was in the process of giving it to him, Cary hit my hand and the bag so hard that I was not able to hold onto it. The bag hit the ground and the remaining fruit snacks spilled out onto the pavement.”
Justin Gimelstob continued to allege,
“I believe the current request for DVROs are being brought against me by Cary and her family in retaliation because I will not be forced into signing a Parenting Plan Coordinator Agreement on their timetable. Cary has been emotionally, mentally and physically abusive to me over the last seven months.”
At the time, Amanda Kloots has yet to comment on the situation. As for Justin Gimelstob, back in April 2019, he was sentenced to three years' probation and 60 hours of community service after a judge found him guilty of an assault described as ‘violent and unprovoked."
