Kristin Chenoweth married Nashville musician Josh Bryant on September 2, 2023, in Dallas, according to People. Josh Bryant had proposed in October 2021. Roughly 140 guests attended the ceremony; their dog Thunder served as ring bearer and walked to AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck.” Chenoweth had explained on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show how they reconnected through a family wedding.

“I noticed him and he noticed me, but we were dating other people. And then, the next summer, my nephew gets married and hires the same band and we re-met.”

Bryant, who grew up in Arkansas, co-founded Backroad Anthem in 2012. He has also opened for Chris Young, Josh Turner, and Eli Young Band. Reflecting on marriage and their age gap, Chenoweth said,

“Josh is 14 years younger than me… But he's made me feel very confident and beautiful and loved at any age.”

The couple recently made a rare public appearance together.

Kristin Chenoweth stepped back into the Broadway spotlight on Sunday night, and she didn’t walk the carpet alone. The actress arrived at the opening of The Queen of Versailles with her husband, Josh Bryant, by her side, a rare public appearance for the couple that immediately drew attention.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the Wicked alum looked radiant in a low-cut black and silver gown that shimmered under the lights. Josh Bryant, who’s 42, matched her tone perfectly in an all-black outfit, a sharp turtleneck beneath a satin-lapel suit that gave him a quietly confident edge. The two looked relaxed, comfortable, and, above all, happy to be together.

Josh Bryant and Kristin Chenoweth's story, however, isn't one that began in the spotlight. They met years ago, in 2016, when Josh Bryant was performing with his country-rock band Backroad Anthem at Chenoweth’s niece’s wedding. At the time, it was just a friendly encounter. Two years later, fate circled back, he played at her nephew’s wedding, and that second meeting changed everything.

By October 2021, Josh Bryant decided it was time to make things official. He proposed at New York’s iconic Rainbow Room, the kind of romantic setting that suited Chenoweth’s sense of theatre perfectly. Speaking to Vogue, she admitted,

“I’ve been the runaway bride. Now that I’ve found him, I won’t let him go. I will race to greet him at the altar.”

Josh Bryant's joy was just as palpable.

“My best friend and soulmate said YES to me!” he told the publication, adding,
“Kristin is my world, my everything, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with her!”

The couple married two years later and has stayed quietly devoted ever since. Every so often, though, Josh Bryant lets the world in. For Chenoweth’s birthday, he posted a heartfelt note to Instagram, writing,

“Happy Birthday to my heart, my harmony, and my forever headliner. I love you more every day…every year. You are perfect baby bucks.”

During the early months of the pandemic, Kristin Chenoweth and her partner Josh Bryant turned their downtime into something productive and playful. As People reported on November 14, 2020, the pair spent seven weeks quarantining in New York City, using the time to collaborate on viral TikTok clips and a tongue-in-cheek Tiger King musical parody titled Little Pieces, which Bryant filmed on Chenoweth’s iPhone.

“We managed to stay creative and still have a good time,” Chenoweth told People.

The Wicked alum added that maintaining space was just as important as staying close.

“He took a couple of walks on his own, as did I, because you just can't be with someone 24/7, that's the truth. And yet we managed to make it work somehow,” she shared.

Bryant, being a guitarist and 14 years younger than Chenoweth, helped her embrace TikTok, something she admitted she hadn’t planned on.

“My boyfriend is 14 years younger than me. Thus, I’m good at TikTok, I didn’t know what TikTok was, I didn’t necessarily want to do TikTok. Now I love TikTok with his help,” she shared

Social media, Chenoweth shared, became her bridge to the outside world.

“To be honest, it sounds like a total Soapdish or Death Becomes Her moment, but it was very helpful, I have been a creature of the theater and on concert tours for so long that I am used to the immediate gratification of a live audience reaction,” the actress explained.

Though she hadn’t grown up in the age of social media, Chenoweth said she learned to appreciate its immediacy.

“It’s the audience, so to speak, and until we can come back safe and strong, then that will remain the case,” she explained.

Quarantine, TikTok, and red carpets, Josh Bryant stands tall with his support for Kristin.
