As per an interview with The New York Times, Lena Dunham met her husband, Luis Felber, on a blind date in 2021. By September of that year, the couple got married.

Luis Felber, who performs under the name Attawalpa (his middle name), is a musician. According to Cosmopolitan, he toured with several bands before embarking on a solo path in 2020. Since then, he has released two EPs and a full-length album under his stage name.

Luis Felber has also composed for films like Sharp Stick and Catherine Called Birdy, both written and directed by Dunham, as well as her more recent series, Too Much.

Back in 2021, Luis Felber opened up to The New York Times about how his relationship with Lena Dunham began. When asked about their first meeting, he revealed it all started with a blind date.

"It was a blind date. A mutual friend of ours basically set us up, the first time we hung out, we didn’t stop talking for, like, eight hours.” Felber shared.

With most places closed, the pair spent the evening walking through Central London. That spontaneity set the tone for what was to come.

“Yeah and I think it was sort of incredible, you know, I walked into that, I’d been on quite a few dates in the past year. As someone who’s quite open, I find you hold a lot back on your first three dates. Or first 10 dates. I was just a bit fed up with that, so I just walked into the situation very myself, shall I say. And Lena liked that. And she’s the same.” he shared.

In The New York Times interview, the musician also reflected on how quickly things had progressed between them and why that didn’t bother him in the slightest.

“I think when you know, you know, I’ve only been alive for 35 years in this lifetime, and I think it’s another archaic thing for guys to hide their feelings. I’m way more into the flow of getting to know the person. And I think Lena’s the same, and I think — I’m going to sound cheesy — but when you find your soul mate, you just know.” Felber said.

Having lived together for several months by then, Felber described the day-to-day of their home life with quiet joy.

“It’s great, we’ve been living together for about four months now, we both work a lot, and every morning is a blessing. And every evening, to be able to go to bed with your best friend and chat — we find it hard to go to sleep at a decent hour. It’s rarely eight hours.” he shared.

Most recently, Lena Dunham and Luis Felber teamed up on Too Much, a Netflix series inspired by their own love story. Co-written and co-produced by the couple, the show draws from Dunham’s move to London and the whirlwind romance that followed.

According to TUDUM by Netflix, the series feels particularly grounded and for good reason. Dunham collaborated closely with Felber and brought in familiar faces from her past projects.

“This is a show that is very close to my heart, created with my husband Luis, cast with my favorite actors — the geniuses that are Meg and Will, along with a bevy of friends — and partnering again with Working Title, who are behind the romantic comedies that formed me,” Dunham shared.
“Netflix has been so deeply supportive of the vision, which is to create a romantic comedy that makes us root for love, brings joy but also has the jagged edges of life.” she added.
