Lexi Jones, David Bowie’s daughter, faced criticism after releasing her debut album Xandri in April 2025. The 24-year-old singer responded to the unnecessary backlash with a heartfelt poem.

Pointing out the headlines that she is getting called a "copy" of her father, she remarked that she is "not a shadow." She is more than just the iconic star's daughter.

Taking to Instagram, Lexi Jones shared her poem titled "David Bowie's Daughter." She penned the first verse, writing,

"I'm the daughter of a legend, but I'm more than just his name, they see the blood, they hear the sound, yet fail to see me, don't feel the same"

Jones is exploring the world of music. Additionally, she often showcases her art and creativity on her Instagram.

On January 10, 2016, David Bowie died of liver cancer. He struggled and fought this battle for around 18 months before passing away at the age of 69. To remember him and honour him, Lexi got inked. Her tattoo mentions a moon crescent, "Daddy xx", "1947-2016."

Lexi Jones reacted to people comparing her with her father’s legacy

Jones is visibly hurt by people comparing her to her dad, a "legend." She wrote a vulnerable piece, pouring her heart out about how she feels seeing these remarks everywhere.

Lexi wrote,

""they compare me to his heights, like I'm supposed to reach his light, but I'm not here to chase what's already been done, by loving what I do, I feel I've already won"

She further expressed receiving both appreciation and judgments from the audience and how they wish her to carry forward her dad's legacy.

"some like what I made, others laugh at how I move, yet they want me to carry on a legacy, but that's never been my truth"

Lexi Jones continued her poem, adding,

"I'm not a copy, not a shadow. I'm just a girl that's as confused as you, never thought I was good as much, never thought it was worth it to pursue"

She further clarified how she is not attempting to impersonate her dad. Instead, she tries to build her empire and show her true self.

"I'm not trying to be that someone, that all love and admire so, I'm creating my own rhythm, letting my true self show"

Jones did not hold back her emotions completely and blurted out her feelings after receiving pressure to match her father's stardom.

"but nobody knows how it may feel, to be constantly despaired, then finally just saying 'f**k it,' then being all around compared"

Lexi Jones concluded her heartfelt poem with

"but I'll keep moving, keep doing me, even when the world is hard to please. I'm not trying to fill his shoes, I'm just trying ot find my own peace"

According to an Elle report, David and Iman had kids from their earlier marriages. Duncan Jones, Lexi's step-brother, is the son of David Bowie and Angie Bowie. Her step-sister, Zulekha Haywood, was born to Iman and Spencer Haywood.
