Eric Stonestreet had joked about love before, but when he talked about Lindsay Schweitzer this week, it came with a layer of honesty beneath the humor. While walking the red carpet for the Dexter: Resurrection premiere, the Modern Family alum told Page Six what made him realize Schweitzer was the one.

“I take enjoyment knowing that I’m with the exact right person in this world who can take my torturing,” he said.

Stonestreet, who frequently posted playful jabs at his fiancée over the years, was quick to clarify that it was all lighthearted.

“It’s all in fun, it’s all in love, and she revealed herself very early on to be exactly the person who can put up with me and deal with me because I’d be doing that with someone, and I’m just glad it’s her,” he explained.

He also shared why her non-Hollywood background made their relationship even more meaningful.

“It was just nice to meet someone outside the business, I always said I wanted to meet someone that didn’t want to be at the party more than I wanted to be at the party,” he said.

Stonestreet built a name for himself as Cam on Modern Family, which ran for eleven seasons.

In his conversation with Parade, Stonestreet reflected on their home-building journey, which he said only confirmed what he already believed about their partnership.

“It’s been incredible. I knew Lindsay and I were great partners when we met, and this has just proven that we’re great together, and we find compromise in everything we do,” he shared.

Though it’s often said that building a house can be one of the most challenging experiences for a couple, Stonestreet saw it differently. What mattered most, he said, wasn’t avoiding conflict but navigating it together.

“Whenever you have any kind of confrontation with the person you love, you always come out stronger on the other side, it feels empowering when two people who know they’re not going anywhere find a little conflict, whether it’s over what color the kitchen island is going to be or whether it’s over something way more serious. You always end up feeling closer and stronger and more of a bond to your partner,” he shared.
