Paul Simon and Edie Brickell’s daughter, Lulu Simon, has publicly shared her dislike for Richard Gere.
The 30-year-old slammed the Pretty Woman star for selling off her childhood home after promising to “take care of the land,” People confirmed. She shared a selfie via Instagram Stories and added a screenshot of a headline of the Connecticut-based property being torn down. Lulu Simon wrote (via People),
“Just in case anyone was wondering if I still hate Richard Gere – I do!”
She added,
“He bought my childhood home. Promised he would take care of the land as condition of his purchase. Proceeded to never actually move in & just sold it to a developer as 9 separate plots :).”
Lulu Simon, who claimed that she “hates” Richard Gere, continued in another Instagram Stories slide (via People),
“I hope my dead pets buried in that backyard haunt you until you descend into a slow and unrelenting madness.”
For those unaware, Lulu Simon is also a musician like her parents and siblings. She is the second child of Paul Simon and Edie Brickell, who share three children. According to People, she was born in Manhattan, NYC, in March 1995. Per Lulu’s Spotify page, she has dropped two EPs, Lulu Simon (2019) and Muscle Memory (2022).
At the same time, the 30-year-old musician has also released various single tracks since 2018, including Feel Better, Not Crying Anymore, Pennies & Pins, Stay, and more.
Lulu Simon once hailed her family of musicians as inspiration
During a 2019 interview with People, Lulu Simon described her parents and siblings as “inspiring,” while reflecting upon the influence they had on her. She told the magazine,
“We used to make up songs as we were walking through Central Park, or in the bath. We would always just write music.”
Lulu also revealed that she used to be secretive about making music when she was young. She said,
“I literally used to go into my bathroom and turn the water on and play guitar and sing very quietly. I wasn’t ready for people in my family to know that I was making music … because I wanted to be sure of what I was doing.”
Lulu started as an acoustic singer-songwriter but transformed into a pop musician, something she credited her producer, Andy Seltzer, for during her chat with People.
Richard Gere bought Lulu Simon’s childhood home from her parents in 2022, but sold it two years later
As mentioned, Paul Simon and Edie Brickell’s daughter recently called out the Runaway Bride actor for selling off the Connecticut mansion that her parents once owned. According to Realtor.com, the singer duo sold their 32-acre estate to Richard Gere in the summer of 2022. However, Richard Gere also put the “1938 six-bedroom brick Colonial” on sale two years later, as he reportedly decided to relocate to Spain with his wife.
SBP Homes bought the property in November 2024 for $10.75 million, per Realtor.com. The real estate industry outlet reported in May 2025 that the new owner has tasked Hudson Valley House Parts (HVHP) of Newburgh, New York, to tear down the property and replace it with a “nine-lot subdivision.” Reggie Young, the HVHP founder, told Realtor.com,
“It's a real shame the house is being torn down. Once the stuff is gone, it's never coming back.”
Richard Gere, who moved to Spain last year, is not permanently relocating to the southern European country. His wife, Alejandra Silva, told the Daily Mail in April 2025 that she and her husband would return to the US during the summer for their children’s camp. She emphasized balancing their lives “there and here.”
Like Richard Gere and Alejandra Silva, many other celebrities, including Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, moved out of the US last year.
