NTV CEO G. Scott Stirling’s son, Geoffrey Jr., was fatally shot on Thursday, April 17, in Newport Beach, California. The deceased was a resident of Laguna Niguel. Geoffrey was reportedly stopped for a traffic violation. The shooting incident allegedly happened after an altercation, after which Geoffrey Shyam Stirling was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Geoffrey Jr.'s sister is Real Housewives of Orange County (RHOC) alum Lydia McLaughlin while his grandfather was the late media magnate Geoffrey William Stirling, or Geoff Stirling. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Geoff, who passed away in 2013, had a net worth of $100 million. He founded Stirling Communications International (SCI), Newfoundland Television (NTV), and other Newfoundland and Labrador-based media entities.
After Geoff Sterling's death, his son Scott inherited his businesses and fortune, which his family still owns. Scott was married to Judy Stirling, who passed away in 2024 following a battle with breast cancer.
Judy also appeared on Season 8 and 12 of RHOC, when her daughter Lydia was a cast member. After her death, her children posted tributes and remembrances on social media. According to NTV News, Lydia wrote:
“We are heart broken but we know she’s dancing with Jesus. Fairydust, confetti bombs and crowns like heaven has never seen before. What’s in the cat is in the kitten and I promise to continue to make you proud.”
Lydia McLaughlin’s brother Jesse posted on social media:
“Forever in my heart, my beloved mother. Your love, wisdom, and warmth will always guide me. I miss you deeply, but I carry your spirit with me every day. Until we meet again.”
Scott Stirling’s other son, Jesse, hosts NTV’s Meetings With Remarkable People. At the same time, his son-in-law and Lydia’s husband, Doug McLaughlin, is the founder and editor-in-chief of Nobleman magazine.
Scott Stirling’s son, Geoffrey, was allegedly uncooperative and assaulted an officer before he was fatally shot
As mentioned, Lydia McLaughlin’s brother died on Thursday after a Newport Beach Police officer shot him following an altercation. According to an account shared by the authorities, Geoffrey was on his motorcycle when he was stopped by an officer on “West Coast Highway between Superior Avenue and Hoag Hospital.”
The 45-year-old was reportedly stopped for a traffic violation. However, the authorities alleged that Geoffrey “became uncooperative and assaulted the officer.” Per the Newport Beach Police’s claims, Geoffrey removed the “department-issued taser” from the officer’s belt during an altercation, which he tried to deploy multiple times.
Amidst the altercation, the reported “officer-involved shooting” happened. After he was shot, Geoffrey received medical aid from the first responders and was later shifted to a nearby hospital, where he was declared deceased. Newport Beach Police also mentioned in its official statement:
“In accordance with California law, the California Department of Justice (DOJ) was notified and responded to the scene to conduct an independent investigation. Once their investigation is complete, the findings will be turned over to DOJ’s Special Prosecutions Section for independent review.”
After the incident, Scott Stirling’s daughter, Lydia McLaughlin, wrote on Instagram:
“My family has experienced an unimaginable loss. My brother, Geoff, was tragically taken and our hearts are shattered.”
She mentioned about Geoffrey being impacted by their mother’s death and continued:
