Madelyn Cline is unsure about her dating life.
The Outer Banks actress spoke to People Magazine for an exclusive interview this week, opening up about the “best love advice” she’s ever received. Madelyn Cline, 27, who spoke to the magazine at the premiere of her latest movie, The Map That Leads to You, in Charleston, S.C., said:
“Best love advice. I dunno. Fall in love, don't be afraid of it. Look, historically, I haven't been, like, the most successful [at love], so don't take advice from me until I figure it out. But yeah, my advice is don't be afraid to fall in love.”
As reported by the outlet, the actress was last linked to Pete Davidson from September 2023 to 2024, though she kept things mum about their bond and eventual fallout. Scroll down to know all about her dating history.
Madelyn Cline's romance history explored: From Chase Stokes to Pete Davidson
Chase Stokes:
Madelyn Cline met Stokes in 2019, when they both got cast on their breakout Netflix show. She played Sarah Cameron, while he played her love interest, John Booker Routledge. The latter made things Instagram-official in June the following year, when he shared a photo of the two at the beach. Its caption confirmed what fans had been suspecting for months:
“cats outta the bag.”
Cline commented:
“Topper punching the air rn,” then “I’ve fallen and I cant get up.”
In November 2020, she spoke to Entertainment Tonight about her romance with Stokes:
“It’s really cool...It’s cool to share this experience with your favorite people and also your favorite person...I feel very happy. I think because we were friends before this; we understood how we worked as individuals before we were seeing each other. We knew how we worked professionally, and we knew each other’s personal boundaries…As a rule, we never bring anything negative to set. If there’s a disagreement or a conversation that needs to be had that could potentially rain on the parade for that day, that’s never something that happens before work.”
However, the pair broke up by the following year, in November 2021. At the time, a source told Us Weekly that their hectic work schedules took a toll on their romance. In February 2023, Madelyn Cline spoke to Cosmopolitan about working with her ex:
“We always said that the job remains untouched,” she explained. “Nothing else, personal or negative, will touch the job. And while that’s not always easy, our job is to leave the show better than we found it, to leave the season better than we found it. And I’m really appreciative of that.”
Ross Butler:
According to Cosmopolitan, rumors that the two were dating began in September 2021, when they were seen grooving to some tunes together at a restaurant in Milan during fashion week. However, Ross later spoke to TMZ about their bond, noting that she was “just a friend.”
“I dance with a lot of people,” he said in October that year.
Jackson Guthy:
Cosmopolitan has reported that Madelyn Cline was first linked to Guthy back in June 2022, but it wasn't until the end of the year that she confirmed he was her boyfriend. In March 2023, she went Instagram-official with their bond when she shared an image of him on her IG stories.
However, the pair parted ways in July 2023. At the time, she reportedly unfollowed him on Instagram, and while they never addressed their split, she allegedly moved on with a new beau by the following month.
Pete Davidson:
Madelyn Cline and the SNL comedian were first linked in September 2023, when a source told Us Weekly that they were dating:
“They spent the night together at the Beverly Hills Hotel and then had breakfast together there the next morning.” They said that the two “wanted to keep things under wraps” because “they assumed there would be a whole frenzy surrounding their relationship.”
They were spotted several times over the course of the next year, though they were last seen in January 2024 in Philadelphia. In September 2024, she addressed her tryst, noting that she would “rather not talk about their relationship.”
"The jokes, they write themselves. And I said it before, and I'll say it again, that is my only comment," Cline told the outlet.
Back in February 2023, Madelyn Cline spoke on the Today Show about opting to keep her romance out of the public eye:
“Some people can do it,” she said. “[But] if you give everything, like, 100 percent of your energy, away, where’s the rest for yourself? You finally understand why people in the public eye keep their circles small.” She continued, “I realized there are parts of my life that only me or one other person are entitled to. I prefer it that way. It also just makes things more special. That’s usually how relationships are."
