Kate and Jim experienced parenthood by having their only child, Mia Threapleton, in 2000. The Oscar-winning actress's agent, Robert Garlock, announced the wonderful news of her birth with ABC. He also revealed the fun story behind the new parents choosing their kid's name, as per People.

"Kate and Jim had drawn up a list of 10 names but when the baby was born, none of them seemed right."

He further added,

"Then ‘Mia’ came to them and it seemed just right. There is no family significance, they just thought it was a really beautiful name."

Mia Threapleton was born in a well-known and affluent Hollywood family. Despite the fame and recognition, Kate was focused on raising her daughter by providing a grounded childhood.

Winslet spoke with Harper's Bazaar in 2017 and reflected on her motherhood and how she is raising her kid. Instead of hiring "a chef or a driver or things like that," she tried doing things on her own.

In the interview, the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind actress shared,

"I would be so unhappy if I had those things and I wouldn't feel like I was being a real person anymore. It just wouldn't be right for my family — I know that my kids would absolutely hate it."

"I want them to look back and remember my chicken soup and my packed lunches and that it was me on the school run."

Mia Threapleton walked in her mother’s shoes and followed her mom's professional trail to appear on the silver screen.

Talking about the 20-year-old's career, Kate shared in the film Lorraine in 2021,

"She's away now in the Czech Republic about to start on a TV series over there."

"She slipped under the radar, and the people who cast her had absolutely no idea that she was my daughter. That was important for her self-esteem."
