Everything we know about Kate Winslet’s daughter, Mia Threapleton
Kate and Jim experienced parenthood by having their only child, Mia Threapleton, in 2000. The Oscar-winning actress's agent, Robert Garlock, announced the wonderful news of her birth with ABC. He also revealed the fun story behind the new parents choosing their kid's name, as per People.
"Kate and Jim had drawn up a list of 10 names but when the baby was born, none of them seemed right."
He further added,
"Then ‘Mia’ came to them and it seemed just right. There is no family significance, they just thought it was a really beautiful name."
Mia Threapleton was born in a well-known and affluent Hollywood family. Despite the fame and recognition, Kate was focused on raising her daughter by providing a grounded childhood.

Winslet spoke with Harper's Bazaar in 2017 and reflected on her motherhood and how she is raising her kid. Instead of hiring "a chef or a driver or things like that," she tried doing things on her own.
In the interview, the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind actress shared,
"I would be so unhappy if I had those things and I wouldn't feel like I was being a real person anymore. It just wouldn't be right for my family — I know that my kids would absolutely hate it."
She also chimed in,
"I want them to look back and remember my chicken soup and my packed lunches and that it was me on the school run."
Mia Threapleton walked in her mother’s shoes and followed her mom's professional trail to appear on the silver screen.
Talking about the 20-year-old's career, Kate shared in the film Lorraine in 2021,
"She's away now in the Czech Republic about to start on a TV series over there."

She emphasized how Mia's use of her dad's surname helped her to establish herself in the industry. She added:
"She slipped under the radar, and the people who cast her had absolutely no idea that she was my daughter. That was important for her self-esteem."
At the age of 14, Mia Threapleton made her acting debut in A Little Chaos (2014). While sharing the screen with her mother, she played the role of Helene.
In an exclusive interview with Variety in November 2020, Mia said,
"I never actually spent much time around sets that my mum was working on. “It's a very different experience when it is happening to you."
She also chimed in,
"I really understand why my mum has always impressed on us how hard the work is. She is right! And I loved every second of it."
The mother-daughter duo appeared on the screen together again in the anthology series, I Am Ruth. Threapleton was cast to play the role of Freya, the daughter of Ruth, portrayed by Winslet.
In a conversation on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg on BBC One, Winslet expressed her thoughts on acting with her daughter. Appreciating her talent and sharing about feeling "blown away," she stated,
"Sometimes I could introduce her to a technical trick here and there. Just little things I picked up along the way, like changing an eye line ... Little things like that, that no one teaches you. And she appreciated that stuff."
In December 2022, Kate conversed with People and talked about her kids' appreciation for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. She explained,
"Mia and Joe love Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Love [it], and love the soundtrack."
Later, she described,
"So regularly, I'll hear from someone's bedroom, Beck blasting. I'll be like, 'That's Eternal Sunshine.' So that's kind of amazing."
Just like Kate Winslet, Mia Threapleton is also emerging as a beautiful and successful artist with back-to-back impressive performances.
Despite being Kate's daughter and nepotism's support, Mia is firm in making her name in the entertainment industry on her own.
On May 18 profile for The Sunday Times, she revealed Kate's reaction to listening to her daughter's future plans.
"I remember her being quite caught off-guard, going, 'Oh, really? OK'"
Determined to do things on her own, she enrolled herself for online casting boards to "try and see what was out there," Us Weekly reported.
Mia Threapleton's impressive filmography includes Firebrand (2023), Scoop (2024), and The Phoenician Scheme (2025). Since her debut, she has also appeared in multiple TV shows such as Dangerous Liaisons (2022) and The Buccaneers (2023).
