Mia Threapleton is appreciating her mother, Titanic actress Kate Winslet, for shielding her from social media.

The 24-year-old sat down for an interview with Elle, where she reflected on how Winslet and Jim Threapleton prohibited her from having social media and kept her away from Hollywood when she was younger.

“I really could count on one hand—both hands possibly—the amount of times that I went to set as a kid,” Mia said. “My mother really strived to keep that world separate from our home life. That’s something that she really wanted."

Jim Threapleton, born in 1973 in Wharfedale, Yorkshire, England, UK, is mostly known as an assistant director cum director. His projects include Extraordinary Rendition (2007), The Mummy (1999), and Dark Realm (2000). He married Kate Winslet back in November 1998, though by 2001, they divorced. The former couple shares daughter Mia Threapleton.

Jim then went on to get married to Julie Vuorinen in 2008, with whom he also shares one child. Speaking with The Guardian in August 2007, the director, whose relationship with Winslet unraveled before the spotlight, reflected on how he traveled to New York 'religiously' once a month to meet Mia, then 6, who was 'probably the most confident little girl I've ever met'.

Mia Threapleton, who was recently seen in Wes Anderson's The Phoenician Scheme, spoke with Elle about how she has no plans to join social media now. The Buccaneers actress said:

"People say, ‘Oh, well done,’ to not having it, but I’ve never had it, so I don’t really know what the ‘Well done’ is for. I don’t want it. I don’t want to worry about dropping my phone out of a tree if I’m climbing one because I’m trying to take a photo of something."

As reported by People Magazine, back in 2022, Mia Threapleton and her mother co-starred in the film I Am Ruth. Not long after, the veteran actress reflected on her daughter's acting skills when she told BBC One's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg that she was "blown away." Noting that Mia "didn't need my help at all," Winslet continued,

"Sometimes I could introduce her to a technical trick here and there. Just little things I picked up along the way, like changing an eye line ... Little things like that, that no one teaches you. And she appreciated that stuff."

Kate Winslet also shares son Joe, 21, with Sam Mendes, whom she married after Jim Threapleton, and Bear, 11, with husband Edward Abel Smith. According to Mia, her mother wants all her kids to have a life outside of Hollywood:

“‘All of their experiences will be theirs and theirs alone,’” Mia recalled her mother saying. “Which is exactly what has happened.” She added, “Growing up, there was a lot of running through fields. If I look back now, it’s quite like a novel. There was a lot of getting dirty knees and making tents out of tarps.”

During an interview with Net-A-Porter in February 2024, Kate Winslet doted on Mia and Joe, the latter of whom also starred alongside her in I Am Ruth, as she said:

“Luckily, they’re good. It felt normal. These are kids who have been testing [me] on [my] lines pretty much since they could read. They’ve seen me terrified beforehand. They’ve gone through it with me.”

Mia Threapleton currently stars in The Buccaneers, and her comedy/drama film The Phoenician Scheme is slated to drop later next week.
