Melanie Hamrick was born in Virginia, and she started studying ballet from a very young age. According to reports by the South China Morning Post, she studied ballet with top instructors, including Alla Sizova, Nicolai Morozov, and Adrienne Dellas.

She joined the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) in 2004 and performed in productions including Apollo and The Nutcracker. Hamrick retired from professional ballet in 2019 after a 15-year career with ABT.
