Monica Barbaro has been building her Hollywood resume since 2013 and fans have watched her evolution to blockbuster actress with interest. She broke out with the comedy short It’s Not About the Nail, and went on to star in FUBAR, At Midnight, and, of course, Top Gun: Maverick. When it came to her dating life, however, she kept things low-key.

At one point, Monica Barbaro was in a relationship with actor Connor Tillman, as noted by Distractify. The two reportedly knew each other from around 2014, and they weren’t shy about sharing photos online. A 2016 post from Tillman, captioned “Wedding bound!” sent fans into speculation mode.

Turned out, the photo had nothing to do with their own nuptials. Tillman later explained they were simply heading to his sister’s wedding at The Ridge Tahoe. Over time, their online interactions became sparse, and eventually they removed all traces of their relationship from Instagram.

Outside of dating Monica, Connor Tillman pursued his own creative path. Per his website, he’s an actor, writer, and improviser. Before that? He was a research scuba diver, until he swapped fins for the stage.

Monica Barbaro’s relationship with Andrew Garfield goes public at Wimbledon

Monica Barbaro and Andrew Garfield turned heads on Sunday, July 6, when they stepped out together at Wimbledon. According to People, the couple arrived hand-in-hand at the All England Tennis and Croquet Club, dressed in crisp white Ralph Lauren looks.

While the sighting marked one of their few public appearances, the duo appeared relaxed and content. They were seen sharing laughs during the match, and at one point, Garfield leaned in to kiss Barbaro on the cheek, a quiet but affectionate moment that didn’t go unnoticed.

Despite the public setting, the two have largely kept their romance away from media attention. Their relationship was first speculated in February 2025, after fans spotted them in the audience of a London stage production. That same month, a source confirmed to People that they were indeed seeing each other.

Garfield has previously opened up about how he views romantic partnerships and his need for privacy. Speaking to Bustle in 2021, he reflected on the nature of monogamy:

“If you’re in a committed monogamous relationship, there’s something very beautiful about the sacrifice of other possibilities, you make that connection sacred and it intensifies the joy of it and the specialness of it,” he expressed.

Monica Barbaro’s entrance into the world of acting might seem like a well-calculated move but according to her, it began with a mix of good timing and unexpected luck.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan, the star recalled her early days in the industry, after graduating. Monica Barbaro was asked if the shift from dance school to acting was tough.

“Well, actually, surprisingly, it hasn't been. I left New York a few months after I graduated [in 2010]. I went back to San Francisco [where I'm from], because I recognized that New York was going to be an enormous pond and I was a very, very small, amateur fish. I had a lot of great luck in the beginning” she explained.

She landed a commercial early on and was cast in a short film that connected her with an agent at one of San Francisco’s top talent agencies.

“I even took some time off, like maybe I don't want to be a performing artist, I'm not sure. And then got swept up back into it,” she added.

But while the external path seemed smooth, internally, Barbaro faced a moment of reckoning. When asked what made her reconsider acting, she pointed to uncomfortable conversations around nudity in certain roles.

“To be perfectly honest with you, what made me doubt it for a little while was I had a few conversations about certain roles where nudity was required. The way that was gone about was to me highly unprofessional in very professional productions. I kind of had this moment of, "I don't want to have to negotiate how much skin I'm going to show for the rest of my life." she said.
