Nat Wolff was born Nataniel Marvin Wolff on 17 December 1994, to parents who are both part of the entertainment industry. According to People Magazine, Nat Wolff was raised in New York along with his younger brother, Alex Wolff. His father, Michael Wolff, is a celebrated Jazz pianist and composer who rose to fame as the bandleader of The Arsenio Hall Show.

According to AllMusic, Michael Wolff attended UCLA before leaving to pursue his passion for music. According to the outlet, he has released several albums and was diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome in the late 1990s, a condition that has been inherited by both of his sons. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2015 and had to take a break from music before returning in 2019.

Nat Wolff and his brother Alex Wolff starred in the Nickelodeon series, The Naked Brothers Band, from 2007 to 2009, a program that was produced by their mother. Through his mother, Nat Wolff is part of the Draper family, who are known for running a multi-million dollar venture capitalist business. Polly Draper has appeared in several movies and TV shows, like "Getting into Heaven," "Thirtysomething," "Stella's Last Weekend," and "Once Upon a Main Street," among others.

Nat Wolff's brother, Alex Wolff, said in an interview with Variety how both of them instantly connected with Billie Eilish due to their shared Tourette's diagnosis. He said:

"We know all the ways that we try to mute ourselves or try and chill ourselves out or soften ourselves for other people, and how nice it is to not have to do that for certain people."

According to People Magazine, the brothers continue to make music together as the pop-rock duo Nat & Alex Wolff. In 2024, Nat Wolff also starred in Billie Eilish's music video for her single, "Chihiro."
