A prominent name in the world of rock music, Counting Crows, one of the most successful alternative rock bands of the 90s era, is currently making waves following the release of the HBO Max documentary Counting Crows: Have You Seen Me Lately?. The documentary is based on the band's sudden rise to huge popularity, as per The Ringer. From producer Bill Simmons, the founder and CEO of Ringer Films, and directed by Amy Scott, the HBO Max original documentary was released on December 18, 2025, and is currently streaming on the OTT platform.

The California-based alternative rock band Counting Crows, formed in 1991 in the San Francisco Bay Area, is considered a legendary band by both rock enthusiasts and music critics. Widely known for their hit tracks such as Mr. Jones, Accidentally in Love, A Long December, and many others, the original members of Counting Crows were lead singer Adam Duritz, bassist Matt Malley, lead guitarist David Bryson, drummer Steve Bowman, and keyboardist Charlie Gillingham, according to People Magazine.

While the Counting Crows went through multiple shakeups over the years, the only original members who remained a part of the band were Adam Duritz, Charlie Gillingham, and David Bryson.

While their most commercially successful albums are August and Everything After, released in September 1993, and Recovering the Satellites, released in October 1996, which received critical acclaim as well, the band has been the recipient of multiple awards, including an American Music Award and MTV Video Music Award. Not to mention, the band was also nominated for other prestigious awards, such as the Grammy Awards, Juno Awards, and Critics' Choice Association Award.

New HBO Max documentary on Counting Crows follows the band's legacy

The brand-new documentary, Counting Crows: Have You Seen Me Lately?, which is currently streaming on HBO MAX, is not only about the band's impressive rise to prominence in the 1990s, but it also follows Counting Crows' thirty-four-year-long legacy. As one of the films in HBO's Music Box Series, the documentary also focuses on the band's lead singer, Adam Duritz, and his struggles related to mental health.

As per reports, the 90-minute documentary features interviews with several renowned personalities, including the original band members, frontman of the band Coldplay, Chris Martin, singer-songwriter Cindy Lauper, Weeds actress Mary-Louise Parker, and stand-up comedian and filmmaker Jeff Ross. Other personalities include Adam Duritz's romantic partner, Zoe Mints, music critic Rob Harvilla, and writer David Wilde.
