Parker McCollum, who is married to entrepreneur Haille Ray Light McCollum, released his eponymous fifth album back in June, and he is now opening up more about it in his interview with Concho Valley. McCollum, who is also set to perform at the CRC Roofers Coliseum next month on September 3, added in his interview that he spent seven days recording the album in New York and is looking forward to his next performance in San Angelo, in his home state of Texas.

Parker McCollum rose to fame with the release of his debut album, "The Limestone Kid," back in 2015. Over the years, he has released three other albums, with the fourth one, "Never Enough," being released in 2022. In his interview with Variety, the "Handle On You" singer talked about the inspiration behind his fifth album, and said:

"And you know, all I ever wanted to do is be a country singer, but then the longer I do it and the more records I put out, I’m like, maybe it doesn’t really sound like country music to me when I sing, or the songs that I write. And that’s totally fine. I don’t know what I sound like, what I am or what it is I’m supposed to be, but I’m just gonna quit worrying about it —and whatever it is that I do sound like, just do that, and its most raw and genuine and authentic form."

More about Parker McCollum, as singer is gearing up for a performance in Texas

Parker McCollum, whose full name is Parker Yancy McCollum, was born in Conroe, Texas, on June 15, 1992. McCollum was raised by his mother after his parents split when he was just eight years old. In his 2022 interview with Southern Living, McCollum talked about his upbringing in a small rural town and said:

"Man, I miss it all the time. When I lived there growing up, I couldn't wait to get out, now all I want to do is go back. It's kind of funny how that works out. But man, Conroe was great. I mean my mom's side of family, my dad's side of family, very large, and, man, just had such a good childhood there."

He further added:

"My grandad is a big cowboy, my mom's dad, and has two big ranches in Texas that I still spend a lot of time at. Spent every summer of my life working for him up there, cowboy, and then during the school year, I was in Conroe. My mom actually moved me to The Woodlands for high school, to go to better schools. And so I was the only person, almost, in my entire family that didn't graduate from Conroe High School on both sides."

In his interview, Parker McCollum also talked about meeting George Strait, who had been one of his idols growing up. He said:

"I wouldn't say we know each other, but we've crossed paths a couple times, and gotten to say hello, take a picture, "How you're doing? Congratulations on everything," kind of thing. So he's somebody that I really don't truly desire to know personally. John Mayer's the same way. I know so much about them, and I, I'm so influenced by them, and there's kind of these mystical figures that I'm always chasing, and they've set the standard for me as an artist.

He further added:

Yeah. I just need that to remain that way. And once you're in there and you know them personally, they don't seem so high up on that mystical scale as ... It's like when you're a kid, how you look at him, I want that to remain that way in my mind."

Parker McCollum has also been open about his past struggles with addiction. In his interview with Sounds Like Nashville, Parker McCollum revealed how he one day decided to pursue a healthier lifestyle. He said:

“That was kind of my wake-up call, it’s probably the second time ever that I’ve written something and gone, ‘Man, that is really good.’ Most of the time, I think everything sucks. I don’t know that I would call it a lifesaving moment, but it was really good for me to write something like that not under the influence of anything.”

According to People Magazine, Parker McCollum married Haille Ray Light in March 2022. The couple had met a few years prior through a mutual friend. Haille Ray Light attended Oklahoma State University, from where she graduated with a degree in Marketing. She owns a clothing brand named Kihk, launched in 2022, along with her two sisters.

She and Parker McCollum dated for a few years before briefly breaking up in 2020. Speaking about their brief breakup, Parker McCollum, who had performed at the Grand Ole Opry during their split, said:

"I don't even remember what the reason was. We were still broken up and we were trying to work things out. But I walked off stage that night and I was like, 'I don't ever want to do anything like this again without her here.’"

They reignited their relationship and announced their engagement in July 2021, before tying the knot just a year later.

The couple welcomed their first child, Major Yancy Tyler McCollum, in August 2024. Tyler McCollum has written several songs dedicated to his wife, with the song "Haille Ray Light" being written at the beginning of their relationship.
