Peter Alexander is an American journalist and a well-known chief White House correspondent for NBC News, who also serves as co-anchor for weekend editions of TODAY. Though Alexander's professional life is busy, off-screen, he lives a private life with his wife and two children.

Peter Alexander is married to Alison Starling, who is an Emmy award-winning journalist with more than 25 years of experience in broadcast news. The pair got married in April 2012.

Alison is one of the prominent journalists in Washington; she was also a longtime anchor and reporter at WJLA-TV, the city’s ABC affiliate, for two decades. According to her LinkedIn profile, while at the station, she reported on major local and national stories and received 8 Emmy Awards, awarded both as an individual and as part of a team.

Now Alison Starling works as the host and co-founder of Living Well with Alison Starling, a health and wellness podcast sponsored by VHC Health and produced in cooperation with the Washington Business Journal.

According to Distractify, Peter and Alison met in Seattle in the early 2000s, when both of them worked as reporters for competing news stations. Their relationship began professionally but took time to develop, and it was about 10 years until they reunited and started dating in earnest. That connection eventually led to their marriage at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.

More about Peter Alexander's parenthood and his recent controversy involving Donald Trump

Peter Alexander shares two daughters with Alison Starling, and the little girls have supposedly become a central part of their lives. While Alexander spends time between Washington, D.C., and New York City for TODAY show work, the family lives primarily in D.C.

Alexander has said in interviews that becoming a parent has deepened his capacity for empathy and changed the way he goes about telling stories, especially ones about families and children.

"As for perspective, juggling work and fatherhood has given me a much greater appreciation for all working parents. Similarly, my ability to empathize has grown dramatically since I became a dad. I feel the stories I’m telling much more deeply," he told Washington Family Magazine.

Peter Alexander recently made headlines thanks to President Donald Trump complaining about a $400 million luxury jet allegedly accepted by the Pentagon from Qatar.

According to reports, Trump lashed out at NBC News correspondent Peter Alexander in an Oval Office meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in May 2025. Alexander had a question about the plane, which is known as a “palace in the sky,” just after Trump had shown Ramaphosa a video accusing South Africa of crimes against white farmers.
