Pia Toscano’s journey after American Idol was anything but predictable. After finishing a surprising ninth on the show’s tenth season in 2011, the New York native faced several setbacks in the music industry. One of the toughest came when “Heart Attack,” a track she had recorded under Interscope, was ultimately released by Demi Lovato, who turned it into a Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hit.Despite the hardships she faced, Pia Toscano never stopped singing. Over the years, she stayed committed to her craft and built a steady career performing live. Away from the spotlight, her personal life also flourished after marrying her husband, Carmen Educate. Most recently, Pia Toscano took center stage again when she performed the national anthem ahead of Game 7 of the World Series on Saturday, November 1, at Toronto’s Rogers Centre. Standing before a packed crowd as the Toronto Blue Jays faced the Los Angeles Dodgers, she delivered a powerful rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” View this post on Instagram Instagram Post“So incredibly honored to perform our National Anthem tonight at World Series Game 7. To even be considered and part of the conversation for a moment like this is beyond anything I could have imagined — having it come to life is truly a dream come true. The American Idol alum looked back on how rejection had shadowed her early career."From the age of 16 years old, I started my Idol journey and my all too frequent run-in with rejection," shared Pia Toscano.Pia Toscano's early attempts at the singing competition were marked by setbacks that could have ended her dream altogether."As if not making American Idol one time wasn’t bad enough, I didn’t make it three times after that. But as the saying goes, ‘Fifth time’s a charm’?" she explained.Pia Toscano also reflected on how close she came to being overlooked again, crediting a major shift on the judges’ panel for changing her fate."Thank God for the change in the judging panel because if it was up to Simon Cowell, he maybe would’ve still thought that ‘there was nothing at all interesting about me’— his words not mine, but honestly I kind of believed that too," she added. When she finally earned her spot on the show, Pia Toscano described the experience as both exhilarating and emotionally draining."When I finally made it onto Idol, it was the most nerve-racking and whirlwind experience of my life, I was battling extreme anxiety and they had just launched Twitter, so not only was I being judged by a panel, but also by tons of people hiding behind a keyboard to troll you with opinions on everything from the clothes I wore to the notes I sang and the moves I didn’t do. There was even this horrible site called ‘Vote for the Worst’ that would just tear my appearance to shreds, which made an already insecure girl even more self-conscious," she explained."Even with all that was going on, things still seemed to be going in my favor. I was slated to win the show according to Vegas and online polls, and the only time I was ever in the bottom three happened to be the night I got voted off. I did win something, though: I was voted one of the most ‘shocking eliminations’ in American Idol history," shared Toscano. From backstage bonds to wedding bells: Pia Toscano and Carmen Educate’s love storyThe Imagine Ball 6th Annual Intimate Charity Concert - Source: GettyWhen Pia Toscano and Carmen Educate first met, music was the backdrop.
