English business mogul Richard Branson is mourning the loss of his wife, Joan Templeton Branson, who died recently at the age of 80. On November 25, the Virgin co-founder took to his Instagram and shared a photo of his late wife. The post was captioned:

“Heartbroken to share that Joan, my wife and partner for 50 years, has passed away. She was the most wonderful mum and grandmum our kids and grandkids could have ever wished for. She was my best friend, my rock, my guiding light, my world. Love you forever, Joan x.”

The couple had been together since February 1976 and got married in 1989. The entrepreneur fathered three children with his second wife. Their eldest child, Clare Sarah, died four days after her birth in 1979. Later, the Bransons welcomed their daughter, Holly, and son, Sam.

Richard Branson’s first wife was architect and designer Kristen Tomassi. They were married for seven years and had no children.

Joan Templeton Branson is survived by her husband, two children, son-in-law Freddie Andrewes, daughter-in-law Isabella Calthorpe, and five grandchildren.

More about Richard Branson’s relationship with Kristen Tomassi

According to the New York Times, Richard Branson was 21 when he married the 20-year-old Kristen Tomassi in Oxfordshire, England, in July 1972.

At the time, he was running multiple businesses, while she was studying architecture and design in the USA. She attended various schools, including Concord Academy in Massachusetts, Fairfield University in Connecticut, Parsons School of Design in New York, and Arizona State School of Architecture.

Following their wedding, she moved to England.

Kristen was born and raised in Southport, Connecticut, USA. Her father, Joseph H. Tomassi, was the director of international marketing and development for the canned and frozen food producer, Libby, McNeill, Libby International. Not much is known about her mother, Jacqueline Tomassi.

Unfortunately, Richard Branson and Kristen Tomassi’s marriage had troubles, especially their “se*ual allergy” to each other, which gave him rashes, as per a New Yorker article. Despite several medical consultations, the pair could not resolve their issue, nor did they have any children.

Richard Branson eventually parted ways with his first wife, and their divorce was finalized in 1979.

Kristen Tomassi's daughter, Galen Ayers, was born during her romance with Kevin Ayers. Galen is a musician and is married to Stephen James Hopkins.

Ms Tomassi exchanged wedding vows with German property developer and hotelier Axel Ball, the ex-business partner of Richard Branson. They have a son named Nicholas Ball, who’s a real estate agent. Nicholas and his wife Nadine Hawa have two children, Alexander and Adriana.

Tomassi and Ball currently reside in Soller, Mallorca, Spain.
