More about Ryan Hurst, as his father Rick Hurst passes away

Ryan Hurst was born on 19 June 1976 to parents actor Rick Hurst and acting coach Candace Kaniecki. Hurst grew up in Santa Monica, California, and later followed in the footsteps of his father with a role in the 1993 series Saved By the Bell: The New Class, which was followed by a small role in Steven Spielberg's 1998 movie, Saving Private Ryan.

In his 2015 interview with Beardbrand, Ryan Hurst talked about how he discovers a part of himself through the roles he plays. He said:

"My whole family is in the business. My mom is an acting coach, my step-dad is a writer and my dad is an actor. All of my roles impact me. Every role that I do is like a tool to learn something new about myself. Some tools you kind of recognize and it is easy to learn to use and then other times it stretches you. I tend to find myself doing roles, that for whatever reason, other actors can’t do. If it’s a role that is just awkward, strange or different, I love taking those roles. I love the challenge.”

According to his IMDB page, Ryan Hurst has appeared in other projects like The Ladykillers, Wanted, Medium, The Walking Dead, Remember The Titans, Desperation Road, and Outsiders, among others. In 2011, he won his first Satellite Award for his role as Opie Winston in the FX drama Sons of Anarchy. Ryan Hurst met actress Molly Cookson in 1994, and the couple later tied the knot in 2005 after being together for eleven years.

Ryan Hurst, who converted to Sikhism at some point in his life, also goes by the name Gobind Seva Singh. In his interview with Beardbrand, he explained the significance of his beard, saying:

“One of the principles of Sikhism, which is the fifth largest religion in the world, is to never cut your hair and to never cut your beard. One of the reasons you see a lot of people in the religion with a topknot or a long beard is because they believe the chin and the top of the head are these energy centers and they are two of the most emotional spots of the body. They believe that women are emotionally stronger, so they don’t need any sort of insulation, but we (men) do. This really resonated with me because when I have a beard, I do feel more protected and stronger. I hold myself a little prouder.”

He further added that covering the head and letting the beard grow out are important parts of the religion. He added,

"It is about holding yourself as a powerful being and that is one of the main reasons I continue to grow a beard."

After his separation from Candance Kaniecki, Rick Hurst married Katherine Shelly Weir. The couple were married for ten years until their divorce in 1991. They shared one child, a son, Colin Hurst, who generally keeps a low profile away from the spotlight and is known for his small roles in Dark Roast, B My Guest, and others.
