American actor and director Robert Schwartzman is making headlines following the confirmation of the third installment of the extremely popular 2001 family comedy film The Princess Diaries, directed by Gary Marshall. The 42-year-old Schwartzman, who played the character of Michael Moskovitz, one of the leads in the original film, has recently given an update that there is a chance he might be back for The Princess Diaries 3.

According to People, Anne Hathaway, who played the role of Mia Thermopolis in the franchise, officially confirmed the news of the third installment in October 2024. Hathaway took to Instagram and shared a post, which she captioned:

"Miracles happen ✨👑 Back to Genovia with @adeleblim @disney @somewherepictures. The fairy tale continues."

Robert Schwartzman, the son of veteran actress Talia Shire and film producer Jack Schwartzman, is not only a well-established actor and filmmaker but is also a renowned musician. He is the frontman of the popular band Rooney. The actor-director-turned-musician, in an exclusive interview with People, shared that he had "early" talks about the third part of The Princess Diaries.

During his exclusive interview with People, the Rooney frontman, Robert Schwartzman, talked about the success of The Princess Diaries and how the film made his character iconic, creating a huge fan following for him. Robert said,

"I do get hit up a lot by people saying, 'Are you going to come back and do the movie?"

While discussing The Princess Diaries 3, which, according to The Hollywood Reporter, will be directed by Adele Lim, Robert Schwartzman said:

"For me, I'm just in standing-by mode waiting to see what the filmmakers want to do with this next chapter. If they want to bring Michael back to be a part of the journey of the characters, I'm obviously happy to support the efforts of the filmmakers, but certainly it's very, very exciting for me to always hear fans say, 'I need Michael back. I want Michael back.'"

He continued and said:

"I've been told that they're starting to imagine this world and how it's going to be told, but I don't know much beyond that."
